Players of the game during the UW mock game
Opening Day
The Washington Huskies took the field on Saturday evening as they prepared the for the annual mock game with the season quickly approaching . Many fans came out to support their alma mater football team with hopes of high success and achieving goals. All the players were locked in and looked prepared for what’s to come as their periods of drills began.
Quaid Carr’s Determination
Quaid Carr showed his versatility and athleticism over the duration of the mock game as he made multiple plays through the air, and on the ground. During the first drive of the game, he hauled in a pass from Demond Williams for a 21 yards gain, the second year player followed that up with a 52-yard touchdown run several plays later that brought the crowd on its feet. Carr continued to make plays in the passing game by catching short to intermediate passes from Williams to extend drives and to keep the defense on its toes.
Demond Williams’s Will To Win
Demond Williams also showed out tonight with his one-of-a-kind playmaking skills as he made defenders chase him all night long. A couple plays included a play action throw and catch to tight end Decker DeGraaf for 36 yards. And then he connected with Baron Naone for a 44-yard gain on a laser pass across the middle of the field. Over the course of the game, Williams continued to show cased his talent by scrambling for first downs on short yardage plays to extend the drives. Williams also used his feet to elude pass rushers and keep plays alive when the protection broke . He finished his impressive night by connecting with Christian Moss on a 10-yard touchdown pass. Several plays later Williams connected with Baron Naone for an 18-yard touchdown.
Jacob Lane’s Stepping Stone Towards The Pros
Fourth year player, Jacob Lane, hopes to take the next step to building what he started the previous year. After not registering a sack in his first two seasons with the Huskies, he registered four sacks in 2025, including a major on in their loss to Ohio State, which put him on the map for players to watch out for in 2026. Those hopes and expectations for the player definitely caught the attention of many people during the mock game, as he was in the backfield numerous times.
In the second period, Lane got a major sack on Elijah Brown for a loss of 7 yards. The following play, he would jump a screen pass to Trey Cooley to force an incompletion and nearly picking it off. The biggest play Lane made was a fumble recovery, in which would’ve been a scoop and score had the game been in real time.
Play of the evening
The play of the game by far was an interception by Ksani Jiles and he returned in back the other way for a 53-yard pick six. Soon after, his teammates came to celebrate and embrace him in the end zone after making such an instinctive play.
