1. Will the Seattle Mariners’ achieve the over on their over-under win total?
Heading into the 2021 season, the odds makers have set a low bar for the Mariners’ over-under win total. As per Sam Wilkins of NJ.com, BetMGM has placed Seattle at 72.5.
For some perspective, just six Major League teams have a lower over-under win total. In terms of the American League West, only the Texas Rangers are below the M’s, at 67.5. (The Houston Texans and Oakland Athletics are at 87.5, while the Los Angeles Angels are at 83.5.)
However, if we just concentrate on the Mariners specifically, they have an excellent chance of achieving the over, at least from a historical perspective. The appropriate credit goes to Dave ‘Softy’ Mahler and Dick Fain of 950 am KJR for pointing this out.
As Mahler and Fain mentioned on their show, Seattle has managed at least 73 wins in six of the eight previous 162-game seasons. They may not have made the postseason since 2001, but recent history combined with the young talent on this roster gives them an excellent chance of achieving the over and challenging for at least a .500 season.
