Seattle Mariners: 6 questions ahead of opening day

4. Will Taylor Trammell continue to impress with his progression?

There were some concerns about Taylor Trammell’s ability to succeed, despite being a first round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2016. Being traded twice led to question marks about his ranking as a top rated prospect.

Trammell’s high rate of strikeouts and overall performances at the Double-A level didn’t help. However, he got to work on correcting his swing and now the Mariners appear set to benefit as a result.

The 23-year-old has excelled during spring training, highlighted by hitting a homer and driving in four runs during Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Giants. As a result, he has not only made the Major League roster, but will start on opening day.

One reason it will be interesting to see how Trammell performs, is his contract situation. If he remains on the roster, he will gain enough service time to reach free agency at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
