Seattle Mariners: 6 questions ahead of opening day

2. When will Kyle Lewis return?

In truth, this is one of our questions which will — or should — be answered quickly. However, this doesn’t lessen its importance to the M’s, both in the short and long term.

The change in the mood regarding Kyle Lewis‘ knee injury went from taking precautionary measures to genuine concern. He was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise and has subsequently taken longer than expected to recover.

The injury still isn’t seen as anything serious, but it does put into doubt Lewis’ availability for opening day. Prior to his injury, the outfielder had an extremely solid slash line of .297/.386/.568 and was continuing to improve as spring training progressed.

Make no mistake about it, the Mariners need the 2020 American League Rookie of the Year in the lineup if they are to continue to progress into a contender. At the same time, you can expect the ball club to take a sensible and cautious approach with the health of one of their most valuable assets.
