Barrett.
With plenty of depth at cornerback, the Seahawks leveraged their abundance of riches to add depth to a thin linebacker group. Jackson had a good preseason but could not distance himself in a talented cornerback unit led by Pro Bowlers Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon. Artie Burns and Tre Brown provide experienced depth, with four rookies battling for a roster position. Draft picks Nehemiah Pritchett and D.J. James compete daily with Dee Williams and Carlton Johnson.
That depth will be severely tested with Tre Brown and safety Rayshawn Jenkins, who will be unable to practice this week. Jenkins suffered a leg injury during Wednesday’s practice, and Brown did not practice this week.
MUCH NEEDED DEPTH AND SOME FAMILIARITY
The addition of Barrett brings a familiar face to Mike Macdonald. In 2022, Macdonald was the Defensive Coordinator at Michigan, where Barrett was in his junior year. The following year, the Wolverines won the National Championship. Barrett was a team captain and earned a third-team All-Big 10 selection. The Panthers drafted Barrett in the seventh round, and he participated in two preseason games.
