Seahawks Prepare for 2026 NFL Season Opener vs Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks are in full game mode as they prepare to defend their title.  The 2026 NFL season will kick off next Wednesday Night, when the Seahawks host the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl LX. Both teams have undergone significant personnel changes. The Patriots added wide receivers Romeo Dobbs and AJ Brown. The Seahawks saw the departures of four starters: Super Bowl MVP Ken Walker III, safety Coby Bryant, and edge Boye Mafe.

“They’ve done a great job. Trying to put it in perspective too, we’re beginning this journey. It’s Week 1, and it’s exciting, and there’s context behind it and everything, but it’s also the first step in this journey as well, ” said Mike Macdonald when asked if his players have moved on from the Super Bowl win. “Whatever comes out of the game, we’re going to have to grow and evolve to become the team that we want to become by the end of the season.”

PROCESS  DRIVEN

Macdonald is a process-driven coach who believes in continual improvement through intentionality and attention to detail. Those were two of the pillars that earned the Seahawks a Super Bowl Trophy. Macdonald and his staff have been implementing structures and systems to get the team ready for Week One.

“ We’ve been in a quote-unquote in-season schedule here for two weeks. The guys understand the cadence of the day; we do that on purpose so it’s not a shock to them, shock to the system,’ said Macdonald.

MAJORITY OF OFFENSE IS RETURNING

The Seahawks defense led the team to the Super Bowl, while the offense was efficient and made few mistakes. This year’s offense will no doubt take a jump in improvement.

The offensive line is returning all five starters; quarterback Sam Darnold, TE AJ Barner, wide receivers Cooper Kupp, and Jaxson Smith-Njigba are all returning.   Offensive coordinator Brian Fleury and rookie running back Jadarian Price are the newcomers to the offense.

“ I am very excited, and it’s a big week for him,’ said Macdonald. “ His first game and his first NFL carry at some point. That’s why we practice the way we do, that’s why we train the way we do, it’s why we think the way we do. Take a deep breath, stack a great play, and do it again. We’re excited for it.”

The  team will   hold practice on Sunday and Monday, take Tuesday off, then host the Patriots on Wednesday night
