A day after shipping cornerback Michael Jackson to the Carolina Panthers for linebacker Michael Barrett, the Seahawks made another significant roster move.
Friday morning, the Seahawks traded Darrell Taylor to the Chicago Bears for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick. The Seahawks drafted Taylor with their second-round pick in the 2020 draft. Taylor played in all 17 games last year, had five starts, and finished the season with five sacks and seven tackles.
UNABLE TO SET THE EDGE
The knock on Taylor has been his run defense. A competent pass rusher, Taylor struggled when it came to setting the edge when playing the run. New head coach Mike Macdonald is installing a defense that relies on versatility based on communication, speed, and deception. When the team added Barrett, Taylor became expendable. The Seahawks have depth and talent at outside linebacker with a rotation of Uchenna Nwosu, Dre’mont Jones, Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, and undrafted rookies Nelson Ceaser, Jamie Sheriff, and Sundiata Anderson.
STELLAR PLAY
Hall’s play during these first two preseason games made Taylor expandable. Hall has been spectacular, recording a sack in both games and seven total tackles. The second-year linebacker played in 17 games last year and recorded 30 tackles, 15 of which were solo.
