Have the Mariners turned the corner after a sweep of the Reds?

After a dismal start brought murmurings of here we go again from  Mariner Nation, the Seattle Mariners reassured the fan base with a three-game series sweep of the  Cincinnati Reds.  The Mariners beat the Reds  9-3,3-1 and  5-1 to sweep  the three-game tilt

If timing is everything then the series win could not have come at a better time. The sweep over the Reds improved the Mariners home record to 7-6 and after going 5-2 in their last seven games. In Wednesday’s 5-1 victory pitching and timely hitting showed that the Mariners are as good as anyone when they are clicking on all cylinders.

MASTERFUL OUTING

Bryce Miller gave up just one hit which was a solo home run in the top of the second inning.   It was Miller’s one blemish as he pitched a magnificent gem of a game. He tossed 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts,  one earned run ( hr) , and one walk and retired the last 13 batters he faced in other.  The outing marked the third consecutive time Miller pitched at least 6.0 innings with three or fewer hits.

CONSISTENT HITTING CONTINUES

With the morbid bats coming out of their slumber the Mariners it three home runs in the game.  Mitch Garver hit his first of the season, Cal Raleigh recorded his third, and Josh Rojas hit a pinch-home run to start the bottom of the seventh inning. In addition to the home runs, the Mariners are consistently hitting.  Mitch  Haniger extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the seventh inning and Julio Rodrigues extended is hitting streak to three games with a double in the third inning.

SOLID SWEEP TO BUILD ON

With the bats heating up to complement the dominant and consistent pitching anything is possible for the Marines.  Reds Manager David Bell was asked just how good the  Mariners pitchers were against his club.

“These guys can pitch, there’s no question. Of course, never want to get swept. But three games, that doesn’t define our team by any means. So not happy about this, how it went. To your point, they made it tough, they really did,”  said Bell in his post-game interview“They had really good arms, made pitches, threw strikes. So, at this point now just looking forward to going home and coming out and playing the way we play and playing hard on Friday night”.

Seattle limited the Reds to 5 total runs in the series, their fewest in any series this season. Cincinnati scored 12+ runs in every series leading up to the 3-game matchup against the Mariners.

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Mariners will now hit the road and play six games in the next seven days. They will play  three against the Rockies beginning on Friday,  then travel on Monday to  take on  the Ranges for three then return home to face the Diamondbacks for three  beginning  April 26th
