The Seattle Seahawks added depth to the cornerback room with the signing of Trevon Diggs a day after the former All- Pro had a tryout at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
Word of Diggs’ tryout with the Seattle Seahawks was an initial surprise, but given the Seahawks’ pursuit of a backup cornerback, it makes sense. The team came to a verbal agreement with Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, who was released by the team earlier this year after he was charged with eight felony counts of kidnapping and robbery. Arnold has a mountain of legal battles to overcome and will most likely be placed on the Commissioner’s exempt list, which has its own process. With Arnold’s football availability in limbo, the Seahawks settled on Diggs.
“Finding somewhere that felt like home. Finding somewhere that I’ll have an opportunity to compete, have an opportunity to play, and if it felt right, “ said Diggs,” That’s what I wanted to do, wanting to make the right decision for me.”
STORIED EARLY CAREER
Diggs had early success in his career, earning All-Pro honors in 2021 and 2022, which were his second and third years with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the second round of the 2022 draft. After the two spectacular seasons, things took a turn for the worse. Diggs suffered consecutive season-ending injuries in 2023 and 2024. The Cowboys placed Diggs on the injured reserve list on October 25th due to lingering concussion issues. The Cowboys released Diggs on December 30th. The Green Bay Packers snatched Diggs on December 31st 2025, and he played in the Packers’ season finale and the Packers’ 31-27 Wild Card game loss to the Chicago Bears. The Packers released him on January 20th
OFF SEASON TO REFLECT AND PREPARE
After his release from the Packers, Diggs kept his dream of returning to the NFL alive with a tight support group that included his family, dedicated trainers, and his faith. “It was tough. Keeping good people around you. My family is a great support system for me. Keeping my mind straight, keep going. I love football. I love to play it. This has been a part of football,’ said Diggs. “ It’s part of my job; it’s a part of your job. You’re going to get hurt. You’re going to have things that’ll happen. You’re going to get traded; you’re going to get cut. Things happen, but you have to keep going.”
FAMILIAR FACES
The signing of Diggs will be a reunion of sorts. Diggs will be reunited with DeMarcus Lawrence, Dante Fowler Jr, and DC Arden Durde. The three were teammates in Dallas during Diggs’ first five NFL seasons, from 2020-2024.
“Just being with those guys and the things that we were doing, like the family aspect of it, I see a lot of similarities. How close the guys are and how tight the group is, “ said Diggs when asked about the reunion with the two players and Durde. That’s very important with a football team just being together, being one and making sure your locker room is straight. I see a lot of similarities there.” The Seahawks released Julian Hicks to make room for Diggs.
