4) The Kraken’s countdown to their NHL debut
The 2020-21 NHL campaign is set to begin on Jan. 13 and must finish by July. 9 at the latest, due to the Olympics. After this date the countdown is well and truly on for the Kraken, who will theoretically make their debut for the 2021-20 season around October time. (Obviously pending any ramifications due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.)
With this in mind, the Kraken still have a lot of work to do ahead of their NHL debut. As we recently wrote, the expansion draft will take place on July. 21, with the franchise selecting a player from each team, with the exception of the Vegas Golden Knights.
This will be quickly followed by the NHL’s 2021 entry level draft on July 23-24, where Seattle will be hoping for a favorable high position for their first round selection. Then just four days later the restricted free agent/unrestricted free agent signing period will begin.
On top of all this, the Kraken still needs to find a head coach to lead the roster when it has finally been formed and is ready to hit the ice. It’s going to be hectic for the franchise during 2021, but it also promises to be an exciting time for the fan base, with plenty to talk about.
