Seattle Sports: 1 Storyline for each of Seattle’s Pro Teams in 2021

2) The Mariners’ attempt to finally return to the postseason

As we go through each of these Seattle sports team storylines, there is just one which comes with a negative connotation. Mariners fans will not be surprised to find out it relates to their ball club.

Entering the 2021 MLB season the M’s have the longest active postseason drought, which currently stands at 19 years. Even a shortened 2020 campaign which included more playoff spots didn’t help the franchise end the streak, although — for what it’s worth — they only missed out by one place and two games.

In this respect, there does appear to be genuine reason for optimism concerning the Mariners, who definitely showed signs of growing as last season wore on. The young talent on the roster is there for all to see, including the likes of Kyle Lewis, Evan White and Justus Sheffield.

With exciting prospects such as pitchers Jarred Kelenic and Logan Gilbert set to make their Major League debuts in 2021, the M’s appear set to see their full rebuild come to fruition. The fans’ will be hoping their patience is finally rewarded, but will it be this year, or must they wait a little longer?
