The Seattle Sounders’ injuries continue to mount and hamper the team’s attempt to build momentum for a playoff run. After Tuesday’s practice session, head coach Brina Schmetzer revealed that the team’s leading scorer, Paul Rothrock,suffered a right hamstring injury and will be out 8- 10 weeks.
” So you’re looking at another eight to ten weeks, said Schmetzer. When asked if the winger would miss the rest of the season, Schmetzer said, “I know Paul well enough to know that, you know, he’ll try and make it back for the playoffs.”
The Sounders have been devastated by injuries this season. Pedro De la Vega (lower body ), Nikola Petkovic ( torn ACL), Jesús Ferreira ( hamstring), Yeima Gomez ( calf and hamstring) , and Jackson Ragen ( knee injury ) have all been sidelined this season. Petkovic and De la Vega have been placed on the injured reserve and will not return this season. Jordan ( lower leg) was also sidelined, but he has returned to the starting lineup, as has Paul Arriola ( knee).
SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS
All professional teams, regardless of the sport, will undergo injuries during a season. The high number of Sounders players sidelined with injuries as the team searches for answers.
“We’re doing all we can, but this is now, you’re either talking about really, really, really, really bad luck, or something that we’re doing really, really, really, really wrong, Said Schmetzer .” And I don’t know where, where that’s gonna fall, but we’re, again, trying to figure it out, so, but that’s not good news.
Sebastian Gomez substituted for Rothrock at halftime during the Sounders’ 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy Saturday in LA.
