Seahawks don the pads as they resume normal game week schedule

While it was closed on Wednesdays, Seahawks practice had to be a rocking affair. Wednesday marked the start of a regular game-week schedule, and the players donned the pads for the first time in several weeks.

Wearing the pads will bring the players back to basics. Hitting tackling with an eye on execution.  It’s not that the players had forgotten the basics or who they are. The move spoke to the Seahawks keeping to a routine.  Consistency and intentionality are both part of the head coach Mike Macdonald’s program pillars. Chasing ages, 12 as one integrity, are some of the others. The Seahawks are playing in the Super Bowl because of the way they have practiced and executed, and the closeness among the players.

BEING STEADFEST AND BELIEVING IN THE PROCESS

Focusing on the process over results has enabled the Seahawks to adapt and overcome adversity. Part of the process of getting results is being loose and focused. Being loose allows each player to be themselves and keep a focus on the team objectives. A loose and focused environment allows each player to hold themselves and teammates accountable.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

While the Seahawks have played as a unit all season, hence the 12s moniker, the defensive line and edge rushers have been the tone-setters for the defense. DeMarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams, Uchenna Nwosu, and Byron Murphy have each recorded four sacks. The Seahawks are one of three teams with at least four players who have recorded at least four sacks. The Seahawks’ interior is a perfect blend of young and old players willing to feed off each other.

PLAYERS ARE READY TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS

For the players, Wednesday marked the start of the countdown to Sunday’s game. The countdown is not to the Super Bowl but to another game.  Any deviation from, or attempt to make, the game bigger than it is would be a break from how the Seahawks have operated all season long.
