SEAHAWKS OVERWHELM SAINTS IN 44-13 WIN OVER SAINTS
The Seahawks defense set the tone early when it stopped the Saints on 4th and two at the 45-yard line on the game’s opening drive. After a Ken Walker run for no gain, Sam Darnold completed a 29-yard pass play to Jaxson Smith-Njigba. The drive ended with a Darnold to Smith-Njigba 12-yard touchdown play, dispelling any questions about Smith–Njigba’s health. Smith-Njigba was listed as doubtful for the game due to an illness.
” Really just proud of our process right now, the guys’ attitudes, our approach every day. The cool is thing about our group is we’re not satisfied. We have room to grow as a football team. Talk about being decisive, shocking, relentless. I thought we were those things, but especially on defense there is room for growth, ‘said head coach Mike Macdonald. “We can learn from extended drives.
We will look at the penalties and see what went wrong there, and if it was cost of doing business or on the other end of the spectrum. Overall just a great team effort. Guys played extremely hard, played together, and complementary football; our offense was efficient.Would’ve been great to not give up the ball at the end. Defensively we played hard. Did a great job”
SPECIAL TEAMS TURN THE GAME
Another defensive stop saw the Saints punt the ball back to the Seahawks. The Seahawks offense never saw the field. Torry Horton returned the punt 95 yards for a touchdown.
“Shoot, green grass. I just made the most out of the opportunity. The core guys, the holdup team, the corners, they did a great job on that play. That’s something that we’ve repped and they went out there and put all their ten toes down on that play. They made the best of it. Celebrating that punt return with those guys because I wouldn’t have gotten started without them.”
The punt return was the longest in Seahawks history. Another dominant defensive stand forced another punt, which never left the backfield. Saints punter Kai Kroeger’s punt was blocked by D’Anthony Bell and recovered by Jerrick Reed II at the Saints’ 11-yard line.
ROUT BEGINS
The Seahawks offense continued its assault on the Saints’ defense. A Darnold eight-yard pass to Cooper Kupp was followed up with a three-yard touchdown dash by Ken Walker, giving him two running touchdowns in two games. His run gave the Seahawks a 21-0 lead. The Saints got on the board with a 27-yard field goal. With the score 21-3, the Seahawks’ special teams delivered another big play. Dareke Young returned the Saints’ kickoff 60 yards to the Saints 38 38-yard line. Darnold hit AJ Barner in a 23-yard pass play, then completed the drive with a 14-yard pass to Torry Horton for the touchdown.

INCREASE THE LEAD
The Seahawks defense forced a three-and-out, and the Seahawks offense took another punch at the Saints’ defense. Darnold hit Smith-Njigba on a 45-yard pass play that placed the ball at the Saints 31 31-yard line. The Seahawks increased the lead to 35 to 3 on Ken Walker’s one-yard touchdown run. Jason Myers 56 56-yard field goal increased the lead to 38 to 3 after a Saints missed field goal. The half ended with a Saints 23-yard field goal, and the Seahawks entered the dressing room with a 38-6 lead.
SCORING CONTINUES IN THE SECOND HALF
With their foot on the pedal, the Seahawks offense continued to punish the Saints’ defense. The Seahawks opened the second half with a 7 7-play 37-yard drive that tacked on three more points. Myers connected on a 46-yard field goal after his first attempt of 51 yards was blocked by the Saints’ Justin Reid. A defensive holding penalty gave the Seahawks a second field goal attempt for the 41-7 lead. Another defensive stand forced a Saints three-and-out, and it became a case of rinse and repeat when Myers 37 37-yard field goal extended the Seahawks’ lead to 44-6.
The Saints scored their lone touchdown when Spencer Rattler connected with Jack Stoll on a 13-yard pass play. With the Seahawks holding on to a significant lead, both teams made bench rotations, and the Seahawks recorded their first home win of the season
