Seahawks hold fast paced practice before leaving for Green Bay

There was urgency, intentionality, and purpose in the Seahawks’ final practice at the Vmac on Tuesday afternoon.  Mike Macdonald and his staff orchestrated the intentionality. After an impressive 33-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes it was preseason but anytime you rush o for 268 yards in a game that’s impressive.  The intentionality from the coaches was to ensure that the plays stayed grounded as the preseason winds down and the teams head to Green Bay for its final preseason game.

WHAT DID WE SEE IN PRACTICE

One of the players that stood out in the fast-paced practice was running back Keny Walker III, who practiced for the second consecutive day.  Walker looked  fast and strong behind the number offensive line of center Jalen Sundell, guards Grey Zabel, Anthony Bradford, and tackles  Abe Lucas and  Charles Cross.  Walker busted two runs down the left side, two up the middle, and another one on the right side.   If the Seahawks are to have a complete running attack, they will need a healthy Walker.

DEFENSE FARES WELL WITHOUT  TYRICE KNIGHT

Patrick O’ Connell continued to impress while filling in for Tyrice Knight, who was at the practice but continues to be sidelined with a knee issue, Macdonald said they are being cautious with . O’ Connell picked off a  Drew Lock pass in the team drills and rambled down the left sideline for a  touchdown. It was the only interception of the day.   Back in his familiar role as MIC linebacker was Ernest Jones IV, who has missed several practices due to the passing of his father.

“ I’ll tell you, I respect each and every one of you for keeping the things that I’ve been going through with my father, between us and not asking so I don’t keep bringing it up. I appreciate that, but I think I’ve been with these guys, and I’d say the group in front, it’s the reps that matter, “ Said Jones after the team’s practice

“The reps and getting out there with those guys. Yeah, we’ve been taking the time to watch run fits after practice, but being out there with those guys, seeing how they move, that’s how I gained the feeling and everything I need to know to play behind those guys.”

COBY BRYANT NEAR  INTERCEPTION

The defense nearly had its second interaction when Coby Bryant perfectly defensed an out route to Cooper Kupp.  Bryant broke on   Sam Darnold’s pass to Kupp, jumped up, and tried to grab the ball with one hand. It looked as if he would complete the circus catch but was unable to secure the ball as he hit the ground.  Pick or no pick, the play showed Bryant’s athletic ability.

SEIZING THE MOMENT

With Tory Horton nursing an ankle injury, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling had another impressive practice.  With Kupp, Jaxson Smiht-Njigba, and Jake Bobo locked for the first three wide receiver positions, the battle for the remaining seats in the wide receiver room is intense.   In addition to  Horton and Valdes-Scantling, Ricky White III, Dareke YoungSteven SimsCody White, Tyrone  Broden, and John Rhys Plumlee are all in the mix

COOPER KUPP ON TEAM CONCENTRATING ON THE SMALL DETAILS

After the practice, Kupp talked to the media and pointed out that the main focus for the  players, especially the wide receivers, is staying focused on the details of the  Klint  Kubiak offense

“But we still have, at least two weeks still of good work, good growth that can be done before you’re into a standard time frame where you start game planning and things like that. Right now it’s really being focused on what is important right now, and that’s about diving into our details, diving into our stuff and making sure we’re doing the best that we can to master our systems and be able to go out there and execute at a high level, “ Said  Kupp. “ That’s where our focus needs to be and knowing that that is going to present itself at the end of the day to be able to go out there and start scheming up against someone.”
