Jesus Ferreira is officially a Seattle Sounder

The Seattle Sounders announced the official signing of forward Jesús Ferreira. The acquisition of the FC Dallas forward had been rumored for weeks.  With rumors set to the side, the Sounders are getting a prolific goal scorer who is lethal in the box. Ferreira spent his first eight years in MLS with FC Dallas and was the signature piece of the club’s attack that scored  51 goals.  During his time with FC Dallas, Ferreira was a two-time MLS All-Star and became the youngest MLS player to score fifty goals. Ferreira missed nine games in 2024 due to a leg strain but scored five goals and recorded six assists.

 VERSATILE  PLAYER
In addition to his lethal finishing inside the box, Ferreira’s rare combination of speed and quickness allows him to attack center backs from either side of the field.

“We’re very excited to come to an agreement to bring Jesús to Seattle. He’s a player who not only brings a great deal of talent, but also complements the strengths of our existing roster,” said Sounders GM & chief soccer officer Craig Waibel.

“Jesús’ versatility allows him to operate in multiple attacking roles, giving our coaches more tactical options in different game situations. His creativity and movement will enhance our ability to break down defenses, and we’re confident he’ll be a valuable contributor to the team’s success moving forward.”

CLEVER  DEALINGS

To acquire the 24-year-old Ferreira, the Sounders sent winger Leo Chu up to $2.3 million in General Allocation Money (GAM ); $ 1.5 million is guaranteed, and an additional $8000k is conditional.  The  Sounders also sent FC  Dallas a 2025 international roster spot and a sell-on percentage. Some savvy negotiating by Waibel enabled the Sounders to sign Ferreira to a contract extension till the 2027 season with club options for 2028 and 2028 without occupying a designated roster position.  During his part of the two part press conference,  Ferreira said that after eight seasons with FC Dallas, it was time for a change and that he was taking nothing for granted with his new team.

“  It was kind of time for  me and Dallas, Dallas and I kind of knew when it was getting to the end of the season it was getting to that time, “said Ferreira. “ When it came to this opportunity, it was on the easier end. My agent lives in Seattle, and he was telling me good things about Seattle, when a team that is always competing for trophies and now the competition they are in was an easy sell. “

OTHER  CLUB  ANNOUNCEMENTS

In addition to the Ferreira signing, Waibel also announced that the team would be moving former midfielder Josh Atencio to center back and that Albert Rusnáck and Joao Paulo would all return to the club. Waibel announced that the team is negotiating with Paul Arriola, a former Ferreira teammate at FC Dallas. Moving Atencio to the center back position will bring depth and competition to the center group, which includes starters Jackson Ragen, Yeimar, and  Jonathan Bell as the first backup off the bench. Arriola would bring rotational flexibility to the front line.
