Seahawks get back to business focus turn to Cardinals

A day after their head coach and his wife Stephanie welcomed newborn Jack David Macdonald, the Seahawks turned their focus to Sunday’s NFC West clash with the Arizona Cardinals. A second win over the Cardinals in three weeks would give the Seahawks the tiebreaker advantage over the Cardinals. Leading the NFC with a one-game lead and five regular games left, the Seahawks control their destiny to a Division title. Before diving into his team preparations, Macdonald paid gratitude to those involved in the birth of his son.

“Well, I guess the cat’s out of bag by now, but Steph (Stephanie Macdonald) had our boy last night, and both are happy and healthy. Man, it’s kind of a crazy statement to say out loud, but yeah. We’re really excited, we’re really blessed, obviously. Man, what women can do is just an unbelievable thing. What a warrior she is, and she’s awesome.”

As for the hospital staff Macdonald was awed at how they accomplished their tasks.

“The doctors, the nurses, I mean those people are a plus in what they do. It’s pretty awesome that that’s what they do every day and the stuff they work through. So, just really blessed, really excited. I can’t wait to see him again tonight, and here we go. But, for our football team, it’s a big week. Also, I want to thank Les (Leslie Frazier) and all the rest of the people holding down the fort. “

TIGHT DIVISION RACE DOWN THE STRETCH

Up next for the Seahawks is Sunday’s critical match with the 6-6 Arizona Cardinals who are just one game behind the Seahawks in the face for the NFC Divison. A win over the Cardinals would put the Seahawks at 8-5 and in sole possession of the Division with four games to play in the regular season. One of the remaining four games is against the LA Rams, who beat the Seahawks (26-20) in overtime at Lumen Field in Week Nine.

A WIN WOULD BE FOUR GAMES IN A ROW

To win the season series against the Cardinals, the Seahawks will need to continue playing stout run defense. In the first game against the Seahawks led the Cardinals to just 49 rushing yards. Quite a feat against one of the best-rushing offenses in the league. The Cardinals Offense is ranked 11th overall and 6th in rush offense. In game one, the Seahawk’s interior seven was able to dominate the Cardinal’s offensive line and held them to just three third conversions on 12 attempts. The Seahawk’s offense was 7 of 14 for an above-league average of 50%. Having played each other twice in the last three weeks, Macdonald expects some minimal scheme changes from both teams.

“Well, like I said, it does because it’s quick. It’s a more immediate time frame. You don’t have a lot of time to kind of evolve your team and some of the tendencies on traditional breakdown timelines. But, there are a lot of things that have changed.

CAN THE SEAHAWKS PUT OUT A CONSISTENT EFFORT

Against the Cardinals, the Seahawks have an opportunity to win a fourth straight game for the first time this season and solidify their hold on first place. To accomplish both tasks, Macdonald is looking for a team that is hungry, full of energy, and striving to improve continually with each play.

“The togetherness of our unit is probably the most important thing right now in how we prepare the mentality and the confidence going into game plans and throughout the week. The challenge is to take it to the next level. That’s what we want to do. So there are things that after that game where we felt like maybe there are some areas where Arizona might want to attack us, and we’ve got to go to work on those things and do what we do.”
