A week after, teammate Coby Bryant was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 12. Leonard Williams joined the party. Williams was awarded NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 13th after matching Bryant’s 69-yard pick-six against the Arizona Cardinals with a pick-six of his own. Give bragging rights to Williams. His pick-six was 92 yards against future Hall-of-Famer Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In addition to the pick-six, Williams had two fourth-quarter sacks, sealing the Seahawks’ 21-16 win over the Jets.
“I don’t know how this works, but if we can nominate Leonard Williams for player of the week, he’s just playing at an all-time elite level,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after Sunday’s game. “You know, to have a pick-six, I think they told me he was going about 17-and-a-half miles an hour, which was pretty fast for a man that size, so he’s playing out of his mind right now.”
Despite missing the Dolphins game due to a rib injury, Williams has been a team leader on and off the field. On the field, Williams leads the team with seven sacks and 20 quarterback hits. Off the field, he is looked upon as a leader who leads by example, bringing commitment and energy to each practice.
