Add head scout to assistant coach Freddy Juarez’s title for this weekend, anyway. Juarez breaks down the opponent’s game and formulates a tactical game plan as part of the Sounder’s tactical staff. Juarez will be in LA this weekend to scout the LAFC and Vancouver Whitecaps game three winner-take-all match. The contest winner will play the Sounders in round two of the MLS Playoffs.
The former Real Salt Lake head coach has been with the Sounders since September 2021. In his decade with Salt Lake, Juarez served multiple roles, including assistant coach, interim head coach, and ultimately head coach from 2019 to 2021. After the 2021 season, Juarez departed Real Salt Lake for a role in head coach Brian Schmetzer’s coaching staff.
IRONIC TWIST
Ironically, Juarez joined Schmetzer’s staff. In 2019, Juarez’s RSL team lost to the Sounders in the second round of the playoffs. The Sounders went on to capture their second MLS Cup that year. Since he joined the Rave Green Juarez, he has been a valuable member of Schmetzer’s tactical team.
GOOD VIEW AND LOTS OF NOTES
As for Friday’s assignment, Juarez says he looks forward to experiencing the stadium’s vibe and having a unique game experience.
“ We get the tactical feel and since we have the time it’s sometimes nice to get the vibe from a real game. “ Juarez says that he will most likely be sitting behind one of the goals so he can how both teams will be shifting and adjusting tactically.
