.A three-game win streak to start the season was followed by a three-game skid, a win, and a loss. One week before their bye week, the Seahawks are facing division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, who have a record of 4-4. According to head coach Mike Macdonald, the biggest issue ailing the Seahawks is a lack of consistency on both sides of the ball
“They’ve won a couple of games in a row. Trying to take the next (step). Everyone’s kind of on their own little journey of story, so there’s some context behind the game one analogy. But I think with us, it’s saying “Hey, we’ve had a lot of opportunities where our record could have been better. It’s not,” said Macdonald .” It is what it is.
There’s an opportunity here to really take a next step and get a win where we can put ourselves in a great position to go get another win. Still, there’s a lot of football to be played, but definitely a win puts you in a lot better position. It kind of furthers the story that you’re trying to develop as a football team throughout the season.”
One notable inconsistency that correlates to the team’s roller-coaster season is the lack of physicality in every game. In the four losses to the Lions, the Giants, the Niners, and the Bills, the Seahawks lacked physicality and were badly outmuscled in the trenches. In all four losses the Seahawks had had six or less qb hits in each game. In the loss to the Bills the Seahawks had no QB hits. Yes, the effort was there to a certain degree. The sheer determination to punish and destroy was missing. Macdonald was asked if there has been a drop off in his team’s physicality on both sides of the ball since the three-game win streak.
“There’s a lot of good stuff in the in the first three games. I think it’s a reminder to our guys of what type of defense we have. Those plays do show up in the past x amount of weeks. It’s just not as consistent as we need to be to be as productive as we need to be. But, it is a good reminder to show the guys ‘Hey, this is what we’re about, this is who we have, and this is where we’re going.’
ACCOUNTABILITY
If the Seahawks are going to take the next step in being both physical and consistent, each player will need to hold themselves accountable for the team’s betterment.
“It’s through our actions how we handle it and how we bounce back. That’s going to determine our success in the long run. All of our guys are not satisfied with where we’re at and not pleased with the results that are on the field. It’s going to take everybody to do their part and make it come together and make it come to life.”
