Seahawks under Mike Macdonald, good vibes with a commitment to dominate

There are some very distinct and immediately noticeable changes for the Seattle Seahawks under new head coach Mike Macdonald. Good vibes, be yourself and be committed to having a mind to dominate. Not to say players were miserable under former  Pete Carroll last year.  With change being the only constant in life there is a different vibe at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center

Three days into the Macdonald era several players spoke to the media on  Monday. To a man, the players praised  Macdonald’s clinical understanding of the game of football. To be a dominant team, Tyler Lockett Uchenna Nwosu, Julian Love, and Geno Smith spoke about how each player must be committed and open to change.

As a returning team captain, Tyler Lockett talked about how players must be receptive to change and his commitment to meeting players and coaches where they are.

WILLINGNESS TO ALLOW PLAYERS TO SHINE

Along with the feel-good vibes, Safety Julian Love, in particular, was impressed by Macdonald’s knowledge of the game and his willingness to allow players to be themselves within the new system.

Quarterback Geno Smith was also impressed with  Macdonald’s philosophy of building a dominant team that will bring excitement to the  Seahawks fan base.

In addition to Macdonald, Smith has begun to establish a relationship with offensive Ryan Grubb.

The relationship between Smith and Grubb will be critical for the Seahawks offense to be dynamic and put defenses on the back foot. A dynamic and innovative offense will bring up the Seahawk’s third-down conversion numbers, among the worst in the league last year.

PREPARING TO RETURN IN FULL FORM

While most players witnessed and took part in last year’s disappointing season linebacker Uchenna  Nwosu was a frustrated observer. Uchenna suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in week 7.

“It was tough not getting to play, it sucked but it made me sit back and realize how thankful I am… Just being able to give my body rest, mentally take some time away from the game, I appreciate it more.”

His absence was noticeable in the defense’s inability to get off the field on third down and stop the run.  Nwosu says he will be ready for training camp and looking to regain the form he had in 2022 when he recorded 9.5 sacks, 26 quarterback hits, and 12 tackles for loss.
