Seahawks use their last pick of the 2024 draft on Michael Jerrell

The Seahawks used their last pick of the 2024 draft on a Division Player they believe has the potential to be great.  With the 207th pick, the Seahawks selected  Michael Jerrell.  At 6’4 and 309 pounds Jerrell is a big man who played for D2 Findlay College of the  Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

During his six years at Findlay Jerrell started 40 of 48 games and was named honorable All-American by the Don Hansen Football Gazette. He ended his career with 40 straight starts. Jerrell’s offense at Findlay scored 28.2 yards per game and rushed for 177 yards.

When asked about his game Jerrell  was honest and to the point.

“I can mix it up, however I have to play. I can play with power, I can play with finesse, I can play with speed. I can play however offensive line needs to be played, but at the end of the day, I play nasty, I play gritty. I’m a gritty person, hard worker, so I’m really to get after guys.”

Seahawks general manager and president of football John Schneider said that he discovered   Jerrell at the Ohio State pro day.

“The scouts, those guys knew about him. For me personally it was when he was at the Ohio State workout. I wish I could have said I went to Findlay and scouted this fall, but didn’t quite have time for that. He went to the Ohio State workout, had a great workout, said  Schneider .” He’s a monster of a dude and we brought him in. He had a great visit, great visit with the staff, treated everybody in the building with a lot of respect and he just has a really nice upside and he did what he’s supposed to do. He dominated at a level he’s supposed to dominate in at Findlay and, yeah, length, size, he’s a former basketball player that’s re-worked his body and he’s still on the process  so it’s a really fun shot at an amazing upside.”

OUTLOOK

Jerrell is a long shot to make the 52 man roster to start the season. He has the potential to be a very good lineman so I project him to be practice squad player.

Jerrell is nowhere near ready to take an NFL snap, but his traits and athleticism might be worth a developmental plan. To be sure, Jerrell is a project. However, he should be able to improve as both a run and pass blocker with a year of technique work. He’s limber enough with good range to climb to linebackers or set out to edge rushers. Jerrell is unlikely to be drafted, but his tools might entice a team to bring him in for a longer look in camp.

Strengths

  • Possesses proportional, athletic frame with adequate length.
  • Former basketball player with good hip/knee bend and athletic movements.
  • Capable of setting to outside rush with good range in protection.
  • Traits could lead to rapid growth with pro coaching and development.

Weaknesses

  • Will need immediate tweaks to his technique as a run blocker.
  • Struggles to find proper positioning to finish blocks.
  • Small forward lean could make him prone to rush counters.
  • Needs to tether his hands and feet to improve pass-pro consistency.
