Drake Thomas will miss the Broncos game; Leonard Williams and Jaxson Smith-Njigba cleared to participate.

The Seahawks will be without starting linebacker Drake Thomas in their Thursday night matchup with the Denver Broncos. On the positive side, Leonard Williams and Jaxson Smith- Njigba are cleared to play after injury designations that put their participation in jeopardy.  All three were dealing with ankle injuries.

THOMAS  UNABLE TO  RECOVER IN TIME

Thomas suffered an ankle injury late in the second quarter of the Seahawks’ loss to the Niners. Drake returned and finished the game. This week was a different story. Drake sat out all three of the Seahawks’ estimated practice days this week.  Smith-Njigba was limited in the first two practice days and finished the week on a high note, participating fully on day three. Williams was limited in practice on all three days but had no game-day injury designation.

“Those guys, they’re ready to play,” said head coach Mike Macdonald about Smith-Njigba and Williams. “Looked good. On the short week, it’s unfortunate we lost a couple of guys. Drake got out of the game, and other guys are still out, but we’re in a good spot.”

With Thomas out  Tyrice Knight will step in for Thomas

“We’re confident that he’ll play great. Standard stays the same on defense. He’s excited for the opportunity, and we’re excited to see him play, “added Macdonald.

Knight started the season opener against the Patriots as the Seahawks deployed a three-linebacker scheme. Knight played 14 of 71 defensive plays. He has played in all of the Seahawks’ games this year.

CHARBONNET AND SURRATT ALSO RULED OUT

Joining Thomas on the sidelines will be running back Zach Charbonnet, who is in the 21-day practice window after recovering from offseason knee surgery following an ACL tear in last season’s Divisional Playoff game against the Niners.

“He looks tremendous. Working through it on how we’re going to handle the situation. Right now, our focus is on playing a game. He’s not playing in this game. He’s going to be cheering us on, and then we’ll move forward, ‘ said Macdonald. “We’re not even at nine months. No standard we hold on the guys coming off of knees (injuries). Remarkably, we’re having this conversation.”

Back-up linebacker  Chazz Surratt will also miss the Broncos game due to an ankle injury
