Seattle Sounders Blank Revolution 3-0 Behind Double Pivot Masterclass

The Seattle Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to nine games and, more impressively, their win streak to four. Saturday’s 3-0 win over the Revolution was the Sounders’ fourth straight win. The win over New England was the Rave Green’s first road win in three straight home games.

DOUBLE PIVOTS PLAYED CRITICAL ROLE IN THE WIN

Hassan Dotson scored an early goal, giving the Sounders the dream start.  Dotson started the game next to Cristian  Roldan as the double pivots.  The pivots played a vital part in the Sounders’ victory. The pair stayed close, thwarting the Revolution’s attempts to attack the Sounders through the middle of their defense.  Aiding the Sounders’ defensive prowess was Yeimar Gomez’s return at center back. Gomez started next to fellow center back Jackson Ragen for the first time since March 7, 2026, against St. Louis City SC. The Dotson-Roldan pairing played a critical role in the Sounders’ attack.

The first half ended with the Sounders holding a 1-0 lead after a near-flawless half. While possession was evenly split at 50%, the Sounders stayed disciplined on defense and patient in attack. The Revolution had seven shots, three on target, but none forced a save from goalkeeper Andrew Thomas. All three of the Revolution’s shots were blocked by the fortified back line of Sounders, which included Alex Roldan on the right and Nouhou on the left, in addition to the Gomez and Ragen pairing.

SOUNDERS DOUBLE THE LEAD AND PUT GAME TO BED

With his side playing succinct football on both ends of the pitch, head coach Brian Schmetzer made no changes at the start of the second half. The Sounders continued to play connected football, with Jordan Morris creating space on the right wing, Sebastian Gomez on the left, and Albert Runsack controlling the strings just beneath striker Dejan Joveljic, who returned after representing Serbia during the FIFA international break.

SUBSTITUTIONS PAYOFF

After the Revolution worked through some intricate play early in the second half that forced Thomas to make a several saves, Schmetzer shuffled the deck in the 68th minute.  Paul Arriola replaced Jordan Morris due to a hip injury, and  Stuart Hawkins relieved Yeimar Gomez, who was on a minutes restriction. It was a matter of minutes after the substitution that saw the Sounders double their lead.

After a wasting an opportunity in the 69th minute, in which he shot straight into the waiting hands of  New England keeper Matt Turner, Joveljic made amends in the 74th minute.

Rusnack streaked down the right side, cut inside to his left, and laid the ball off to an onrushing Arriola, who deadened it to a wide-open Joveljic, whose right-footed shot split two defenders and whizzed past the hapless Turner.

HOME AND DRY

An exquisite Sounders counterattack put the game to bed in the 81st minute.  Cristian Roldan intercepted a pass in his defensive half  and quickly passed the ball to  Rusnack, who fed a galloping Jesus Ferreira on the right side. Without hesitation Ferreria slid the ball across the goal box to wide-open Arriola, who slotted the ball into the  back of the net for the 3-0 lead
