Intentionality was the key for the Seahawks as they returned to practice after a preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
After his team’s lackluster 17-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys to kick off the preseason, head coach Mike Macdonald was disappointed in his team’s effort. “That’s really the biggest takeaway in both phases, on offense and defense. Our operation and how we’re finishing plays are not up to par. That will be a focus moving forward, but it’s good to know,’ “said Macdonald after Saturday’s game.
RETURN TO PRACTICE WITH INTENT
The team returned to practice Monday after taking a rest day on Sunday. After looking at the film and positional meetings in the morning, Macdonald and his staff had a plan of attack to correct the operational errors from Saturday’s game. The players followed the coaching staff’s lead, and the practice was spirited, with high energy and intensity.
“ I liked our intent. It wasn’t a crazy-long or intense practice. The team’s workload was heavier, which is good to get them warmed up. Anytime we challenge our guys to do anything, their intent has been fantastic, and we did it again today. We trust our guys. This is our first opportunity to work through a not-perfect situation. I wouldn’t call it adverse, but maybe you do call it an adverse situation, where it’s just, ‘Hey, things didn’t go your way. We said we’re going to operate a certain way. And so now let’s do and act as we said we were going to, and then try to solve this problem together,’ said Macdonald.
Several players returned to full participation in practice, which added to the intensity. Running back Jadarian Price, Jacardia Wright, and cornerback Julian Neal hit the practice field. Wright participated, and Price participated in full-team drills. Neal took part in individual and unit drills but not in full-team drills.
GOOD DAY FOR SAM DARNOLD
Quarterback Sam Darnold had another banner day, showing his pinpoint accuracy. Darnold completed long downfield passes to Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, and Rashid Shaheed. Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr caught several passes, and he continues to impress with his route running and pass-catching ability. Darnold has quietly been having an outstanding camp; in addition to his passing, he has shown his leadership and maturity in hurry-up offense and red-zone matchups against the No 1 Defense.
“Yeah, Sam’s (Darnold) had a great camp. It’s becoming a clearer plan on how we want to operate from now to go play the first game. He’s been right there every step of the way. He’s been tremendous,” said Macdonald.
INJURY REPORT
Macdonald gave is now all to famialiar vague injury update.
(On update on Nick Emmanwori) “Yeah, I don’t have an update on Nick (Emmanwori).”
(On Tory Horton not being at practice and if he’s ok) “Tory’s (Horton) working through some things. Yeah, not a lot of updates on the injury front right now, but they had a couple guys down today.”
(On when Julian Neal will be playing) “He’s working his way back now, but no new timetable or anything.”
