Mariners Extend Streak with Robles’ Walk-Off Hit

Victor Robles walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th  gave the Seattle Mariners ( 31-29) their sixth consecutive win.  The walk-off single by Robles secured a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks( 31-27) and the series sweep. Before sweeping the D-backs, the Mariners swept the Oakland A’s in a three-game series. The six-game win streak is the longest for the Mariners since September 7th, 2025, when they won seven games in a row.

“The first however many games, (we) never really played to our potential, I don’t think,”  pitcher  Bryce Miller said. “We knew even the games that we won, either we wouldn’t pitch that well, or we wouldn’t hit that well.” The Mariners were floundering during the first two months of the season.  Twice the team fell below the 500 mark.

It now seems the team is playing complementary baseball. The bats are hitting on a consistent basis, and the pitching continues to be rock-solid. The bats’ awakening, more specifically the long ball, has been key for the Mariners.  The Mariners finished the month of  May with 42 Home runs and tied with the Chicago White Sox. Overall, the Mariners have hit 74 home runs.

HOW GOOD CAN MARINERS GET

The biggest surprise during the Mariners’ offensive explosion is that All-Star catcher and AL MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh has been sidelined with a right oblique since May 14th. All-star utilityman Brendon Donovan followed Raleigh and was placed on the disabled list on May 15th.

ABOUT THAT PIGGYBACK EXPERIMENT

Another surprise from the Mariners has been Dan Wilson’s piggyback experiment. With six golden arms, Wilson elected to use all six rather than go with the traditional five-person rotation.  With the first four spots in rotation allocated to Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryan Woo, and Emerson Hancock, the dilemma for Ilson was how to place in the fifth rotation between Ryce Miller and Luis Castillo.  Wilson picked both. The two pitchers rotated starts, with the second pitcher available for mid-late relief to ensure they both stay sharp. The plan has worked to perfection. The two pitchers have combined to a post a 2.12 ERA over 17 innings.  Of the two, Miller has found his groove, allowing four runs in his first 16 innings with a 2.25 ERA.

“We’re all very routine oriented,” Miller said. “And it makes it a lot more difficult when we don’t know how to prepare for the next couple days or the next week. So getting on the same page with that was big.”

METS ARE NEXT
The Mariners will continue the homestand with a three-game series against the New York Mets ( 26-33). Emerson Hancok ( 4-2 2.78) will face off against Austn Warren ( 1-1,1.40 )
