Jadarian Price Joins Seahawks: Impact and Analysis

For all the talk of the Seahawks trading down, the bottom line is that it did not happen. The Seahawks stayed pat and filled their need at running back by drafting former Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price. The obvious comparisons are to departed Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who signed with Kansas City in the offseason.

“Great player, great person. We thought he had some opportunities for a minute. Fell apart. A lot of trading going on right ahead of us, but I mean, he kind of stood alone. Great player, “ said General Manager John Schneider. “ The person’s outstanding, the competitor, he’s a Seahawk. It’s really cool. We were kind of concerned people were going to go ahead of us because we felt like he was so out there in terms of mock drafts and what have you.

VERY PRODUCTIVE COLLEGIATE CAREER

Price shared running back duties with Jeremiyah Love, who was selected third overall by the Arizona Cardinals at Notre  Dame last year.  Despite sharing duties with Love Price, put  stellar numbers. In his three years at Notre Dame, Price finished with 280 carries, 1,692 yards, and 21 touchdowns.

Eleven of the 21 touchdowns came in his senior year, when he had 113 carries for 674 yards.  His willingness to split carries and be a good teammate speaks to his character. Something Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald believe is essential to being a Seahawk.

A KNACK FOR SCORING

The eleven touchdowns are no doubt an indicator of Price’s nose for the endzone.  Price’s leg strength , vision , shiftness, and explosiveness are the attributes that make him a dangerous ball carrier.

“One of his super talents is basically just his ability to cutback and crease it. He has home run speed. He has a lot of explosive runs. He’d returned three kick-offs for touchdowns in his career; Two this year. That’s such a unique feel. The USC game was ridiculous. Yeah, just like that. That instant acceleration,’ said Schneider

Several  NFL analysts weighed in on the Seahawks selection of  Price

NFL Network Analysis

“The running back position fell off quick after this one. There’s going to be a long way before we see another one. Vision, balance. We saw that kickoff return value. This is a real deal back. There’s a reason why we all had him as the second running back in this class. I thought the contact balance, once he absorbs contact, he’s able to get right through it. He has excellent vision, he’s slippery and elusive. He didn’t get as many carries as he should have. I love his feel, I love his instincts.” – Daniel Jeremiah

“It’s the first pair of teammate running backs to be drafted in the first round since Felix Jones and Darren McFadden came out of Arkansas. This is the first instance that the first two running backs in an NFL draft ever are from the same school.” – Rich Eisen

“One of the questions was the limited touches and how does that project. We haven’t seen him touch the ball as much. Look up Josh Jacobs numbers and compare them. The odometer is low and this is good.” – Daniel Jeremiah
