The Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl LX trophy celebration started early Wednesday morning and continued into Thursday morning. The Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the New England Patriots set off a celebration for the ages. The celebration started with a Trophy presentation in front of 50,000 fans at Lumen Field, followed by a parade through downtown Seattle in front of an estimated one million fans. Seahawks players, their family members, and team personnel climbed onto trucks and double-decker buses and spent the next 90 minutes in a full-on love fest with their adoring fans.
A JOYOUS CELEBRATION
The 35-minute trophy presentation at Lumen Field was a joyful celebration filled with thank yous and a few R-rated words. Given the party atmosphere, the R-rated expletives seemed to be part of the script. General Manager John Schneider, head coach Mike Mcdonald and Jody Allen, Chairperson for the Paul G Allen Foundation, were among the speakers.
FORGET THE SPEECH LETS GET TO TOASTING
Schneider kicked off the festivities by saying he was going to treat his portion of the speech like a wedding toast. Without missing a beat, Schneider toasted players, coaches, Jody Allen, and the fans. During his speech, Schnedier pointed out that the team had angles looking out for them this season because of the loss of his father and those of linebacker Ernest Jones IV , quarterback Drew Lock, tackles Charles Cross, and wide receiver Jake Bob.
We’ve lost only one game since my father passed with those angels (watching over the team),” Schneider said. “We know that (former owner) Paul Allen (who died in 2018) has watched over us.”
A GRATEFUL COACH
Holding the Lombardi Trophy in hand, Macdonald was overcome with joy and gratitude for being the team’s head coach.
“We set on this course two years ago,” Macdonald said while holding the Vince Lombardi trophy. “Jody (Allen) and I, sitting in a hotel meeting room in Baltimore. This is the vision that we had for the Seahawks. We talk about 12 as one, look at all the 12s in this stadium right here and see how powerful this is with this football team. I got goosebumps just thinking about it. This is why we do what we do, to bring people together. That’s why football is the best sport in the world. Having a football team is the best thing going.”
KEEPING IT REAL
Among the players who spoke at the podium was Ernest Jones IV, the heart and soul of the Seahawks team. It was Jones’s R-rated expletives that came to the defense of Sam Darnold after the team’s Week 11 loss to the Rams. In the Seahawks’ 19-11 loss to the Rams, Darnold threw four interceptions. After the loss, Jones defended his quarterback.
“There were plays that defensively we could have made, there were opportunities where we could have got better stops. It’s football, man. He’s our quarterback, we’ve got his back, and if you’ve got anything to say, quite frankly, f— you.”
During Wednesday’s celebration, Jones once again made it clear where how he feels about Darnold, his teammates, coaching staff and fans.
“Imma keep it a buck,” Jones added. “I’m probably the last person they should have gave the mic to. But we finna turn up, man. First off, I wanna say shoutout Jody Allen. Shoutout to John Schneider for making this all possible. Shout out to coach Mike Macdonald for helping us get to this point. But also shout out to these bad-ass [expletive] who play this game the right way. Not only do we have the best defense in the world, we got the best team in the world.”
“And quite frankly if you got anything to say about my quarterback, you got anything to say about my defense, you got anything to say about my O-line, and you got anything to say about the city of Seattle, I got two words for you, f* you. We here to stay and we ain’t going nowhere.”
A PARADE FOR THE AGES
Once the speeches were complete the players, fans, and coaches hit the streets of Seattle for the love fest with the 12′ who were anxiously waiting for their heroes.
