Seahawks Mike Macdonald expecting Nick Emmanwori to play on Sunday

A calm, cool, and collected Seahawks head coach, Mike Macdonald, walked up to the podium and whimsically asked if the first question would be about his rookie safety Nick  Emmonwari.  Emmanwori was injured during the team’s Wednesday practice, leaving a bewildered  Seahawks Nation. Safe to say the majority of Seahawks fans had little or no sleep after the news was delivered.

OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK

Bewilderment and heartbreak turned into joy when Macdonald announced that Emmanwori would indeed play in Sunday’s winner-take-all Super Bowl game against the New England Patriots.

Macdonald was asked about the team’s recovery plan for Emmanwori.

“See how he’s feeling,” Macdonald said. “He’ll be ready to go regardless. Let’s do the smartest thing for us and him every day, and make sure we’re ready to go, We’ll evaluate it tomorrow and see how much he can do.”

VERSATILE PLAYER

A candidate for the defensive rookie of the year award, Emmanuel is creating mismatches for the offensive coordinator when they are scheming against the Seahawks’ defense.  This is all due to Emmanwori’s 6’3 height, quickness, and speed, which allow him to play inside the box and stuff run plays, as well as attack the quarterback and drop back in pass defense.

Emmanwori played in 14 games and was one of three players in the NFL with double-digit passes defensed, eight or more tackles for loss, and two or more sacks.  He finished the season with 81 tackles, which was third on the team.

SEAHAWKS PRACTICE UPDATE

Seattle players spent the first hour on Thursday in position-specific drills and about 45 minutes in a team period. Players looked loose, running back Velus Jones Jr. sang along to “Eye of the Tiger” and several players and coaches started dancing during a break in the team period when the song “Percolator” played.

On one third down during a team period with the first team defense facing the scout team offense, Leoanrd Williams and De Marcus Lawrence turned to the sideline and raised their arms up and down, signaling for a non-existent crowd to make some noise.

“Wednesday is normally more of a work day for us,” Macdonald said. “Today is more of a energetic- a normal Thursday. Guys did a great job.”
