Seahawks Suffer Tough Loss: Key Injuries and Game Analysis

The Seattle Seahawks’ 19-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans was marred by the devastating injury news involving rookie safety Bud Clark and second-year lineman Mason Richman. He spent his rookie season bouncing between the active and inactive lists; Richman was set to have a breakout year.

Clark was having a stellar training camp and saw some reps with the number one unit this summer.   His athleticism gave head coach Mike Macdonald and his staff a sense of how they could move him around on defense. Mason’s injury has not been disclosed, while Clark has an ankle injury. Macdonald said they were heartbreaking long-term injuries.

“We had two really tough injuries today, so Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge. Severity.
I am not sure, but he’s gonna be out multiple months,” said Macdonald. “We’re gonna try to figure out what’s going on with Masin, but we will also think that’s a major injury. “Those are two guys that we love that play our style of ball, that are our type of guy.

Our teammates love them, great teammates, great guys, great football players.
They have great futures. It’s a real heartbreaker, honestly; we got three heartbreakers this week.”   Wide receiver Jake Bobo suffered a season-ending injury during the team’s joint practice on Friday.

A GOOD START AND NOT SO GOOD FINISH

As for the game itself, Macdonald was happy with how the team started but disappointed that the team was unable to close out the game with a lead.

“Look, we’re trying to win games, and so ultimately, that is the goal and we fell short in that department, which I actually think is going to be a really great opportunity for our team to learn from this, on how we manage games, and the things you need to be able to do in the second half to win football games,’ said Macdonald.

A  FAST START

As for the game itself, it was the  Drew Lock-led offense that set the early tone. The offense scored on its first three possessions by establishing the run game inside the tackles.

Lock connected with Elija Arroyo on a 36-yard pass play for the first score, and the second was a 69-yard gallop down the middle of the Titans by Jacardia Wright. Give credit to the Seahawks ‘ second-string offense for perfect blocking and execution on the touchdown run.

The Seahawks’ offense slowed down on its next three possessions, with a missed FG, a punt, and a run out of the first half. The starting offense consisted of LT Josh Jones, LG Mason Richman, C Olu Oluwatimi, RG Christian Haynes, RT Bobby Hart, QB Drew Lock, FB Brady Russell, TB Jacardia Wright, TE Eric Saubert, WR Cody White, and WR Montorie Foster Jr.

SLOPPY SECOND  HALF

Jalen Milroe started the second half at quarterback, and the Seahawks’ offense went through major struggles.  The first drive of the second half ended in a punt, and the second drive resulted in an interception. While the offense was struggling, the Seahawks defense continued to play stout defense and held the Titans to a field goal after the turnover.

Another offensive possession ended in a punt; the next possession, the offense turned the ball over on downs, and the last offensive possession for the Seahawks ended in an interception. The last interception was the most painful of all. The Seahawks defense stopped the Titans on fourth down a the one-yard line. Milroe completed 6/11 pass attempts for 52 yards, two interceptions, and one run for 16 yards. Lock was 12/14 for  103 yards and one touchdown.

OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE

With  Jadarian Price and George Holani on the sidelines, Jacardia  Wright literally took the ball and ran with it.   Wright finished the day with eight carries for 81 yards and one touchdown.  Also seizing the moment was Elija Arroyo, who had two receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.
