With the post-NFC Championship trophy celebrations in the rearview mirror, the Seattle Seahawks have now turned to limiting non-football distractions as they begin preparations for Super Bowl LX.
“ I think that’s part of the message this week with the guys, is there is going to be a lot that is under our control that we can keep it within our process, but there will be some things that are going to be different. That’s okay. But the things that are going to stay the same is our approach to every day and like what the intent of the day or the walk-through or whatever we’re trying to achieve that day is,’ said head coach Mike Macdonald during his Mondays press conference. “ So today is kind of one of those things. We have to go over some logistics which is exciting, but also something we want to get ahead of so when it’s time for football we can be focused on football.”
The non-football distractions are not such a bad thing for the Seahawks. The only other team working through the non-football distractions is the New England Patriots. So one could say it comes with the territory. In reality, calling them distractions might be an overreach. Off-field planning and team logistics are more appropriate terms. In addition, the Seahawks and Patriots players will have media obligations once they land in Santa Clara.
“ There is a great balance, and I’m sure the coaches will have a great plan for us. As much as there will be media stuff. It’s just part of the Super Bowl stuff, you know, but whatever it is, I think it’s an hour and a half obligation each day. You take care of it and then you get ready to play football. You’re inserting it into part of your day,’ said Cooper Kupp .” Around that stuff you still got to go out there and just be present, be where your feet are. When it’s time to do the media thing, do the media thing, handle, your business, protect the team, and then you will move into football stuff and be where your feet are in that regard. Be ready to prepare to beat a really good football team and go out there and compete for a world title.”
KEEPING IT SIMPLE AND EXECUTING
Once the logics are completed, the players’ and coaching staff’s focus will quickly shift to winning Super Bowl LX.
According to Kupp, the intention and focus leading up to the game have to be to keep it from becoming bigger than it is. A process-over-results mindset and a healthy mindset are the keys. And once the game begins, it will be about execution, just like any other game the Seahawks have played this season.
Yeah, well, there is a lot of things. I think everyone is going to tell you that this game is different. Everything about it is telling you, for some reason, that this is a Week 21 game or whatever it is, is different than all the other ones. But it’s not. The game is going to start. It’s going to take a little bit longer to get there. But the game will start, and when the game is going, it’s the game. I think keeping that and letting that be kind of the theme for how you want to go about your process over the next two weeks is the way to do it. No need to reinvent anything. Just handle your process.”
The Seahawks players will return to practice Thursday after having Tuesday and Wednesday off.
