Mariners reportedly land one of the top 2027 international prospects

After previously agreeing a deal with the Yankees, infielder Mairon De La Rosa has now decided to join the Mariners for $3.8 million.

As we wrote about recently, the Seattle Mariners did well in signing five prospects from the 2026 international class, including three players in the top 50. Well, it seems they are taking steps to set themselves up for even more success with the 2027 international class.

As per a report from Adam Jude of The Seattle Times, the Mariners put forward a $3.8 million offer for Mairon De La Rosa. The switch-hitting shortstop is widely considered the number one prospect in the 2027 international class.

What makes this even more compelling is that De La Rosa previously had a verbal agreement for $4.3 million in place with the New York Yankees, before he backed out last week. He projects as a five-tool player and would represent the Mariners’ biggest international class signing since Julio Rodríguez in 2017.

It is both surprising and encouraging that the Dominican Republic native accepted the Mariners deal, given the Yankees and then subsequently other teams made higher offers. Now it’s a case of waiting patiently for the move to become official, with the 2027 international class unable to sign with anyone until Jan. 15 next year.

M’s snag a second top 2027 international class prospect

In a case of Déjà vu, the Mariners have reportedly also come to terms with another Dominican Republic switch-hitting shortstop, in Eudi Yuten. This particular verbal agreement is for $4 million and he is another projected five-tool player, who is ranked third among all 2027 international class prospects.

Pending official confirmation of the two signings, it does not leave the Mariners with much money left in their pool to bring in other prospects next year. Although at the same time it’s not often you snag two of the top three players in any international class, as the M’s continue to maintain their reputation as one of the very best farm systems in the majors.

The additions of De La Rosa and Yuten also offer the tantalizing promise of continuing the Mariners’ ability to develop tremendous players capable of reaching special heights. Aside from Rodríguez, lets not forget the M’s also previously signed Edgar Martinez, Ichiro Suzuki and Félix Hernández.
