Outside linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence became the first Seahawks defensive player to be named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Lawrence returned to fumble for two touchdowns in the Hawks’ 44-22 win over the Cardinals. The 12-year veteran became just the fourth player in NFL history to return fumbles for a touchdown in the same game.
The other players to accomplish the feat were Jeremy Chinn (2020), Fred Evans ( 1948) an Al Neser ( 1920). It is the second time in his career that Lawrence won the NFC Defensive Player of the week, The other time was in 2017 when he was with the Cowboys
A COMPLETE GAME
In addition to the scoop and scores, Lawrence finished the game with four tackles, one tackle for a loss, a half sack, and three quarterback hits. Lawrence signed with the Seahawks in the offseason after eleven years with the Dallas Cowboys. A decision, Lawrence says, was one of his better moves.
“” Yeah, locker rooms could be different wherever you’re at. It’s really about the camaraderie and the fellas that you have in the locker room with you, ” said Lawrence. ” That’s the beautiful thing that we have going on here. We don’t have a selfish bone in our bodies. We all play together as a team, and that’s what I see.”
When asked about playing for Mike Macdonald and his complicated defensive schme Lawrence pointed out that it was tough going at first.
“I think it’s the trust. When I came in, a lot of the guys were like, ‘Oh, bro, just wait until you see how Mike (Macdonald) dials things up here, ” said Lawrence .” And when I was going through my Harvard playbook in the offseason, it was a little tough for me, but now that I’m in the system, I understand the plays and how he’s dialing them up, it’s a beautiful thing.”
