The Seahawks could see some reinforcements in Sunday’s game with the LA Rams.
Wide receivers Tory Horton (groin, shin), Jake Bobo ( calf), Ernest Jones ( knee), and Josh Jobe ( concussion ) missed the team’s win over the Cardinals. After a few days’ rest, the team returned to practice on Wednesday, and there was good news on the injury front.
A little to early to tell, but there are positive signs
Horton, Jones, Bob, and Jobe participated in some form on Wednesday. The practice was what head coach Mike Macdonald calls an Alignment Communication Technique practice. A practice that is just north of a walk-through.
“Similar schedule today as last week,’ said Macdonald. “ Felt like that was the best thing for the guys. The guys are excited, we had a great couple of meetings this morning, and we’re back at it.”
As for the practice roll call, Bobo was a full participant, while Jones, Horton, and Jobe were limited. While there is a clear indication if the three would play, it is a definite upgrade from last week.
The Seahawks will need to as healthy as they can against a tough Rams defense
If the Seahawks are to leave SoFi Stadium with a win they will need to continue to play sound and solid football. The return of Jones would be a big boost to a defense that will be trying to put the brakes on the Rams fifth ranked offense led by Matthew Stafford.
“He’s obviously a great player. I’ve only gone against him a few times in my career, but this is probably the best I’ve seen him play. He’s playing great football, “ said McDonald.” He’s decisive, they’re putting him in great situations, diagnosing defenses at a really high level, handling the protections at a high level, they’re explosive right now in their pass game, and then they’re converting in a lot of those conversion downs too, which keeps drives extended. He’s playing great football.”
Next man up
Tyrice Knight started for Jones as the mic linebacker with Drake Thomas playing on the inside. If Jones misses a second straight game. The pair would make it two consecutive starts. Recently signed wide out Rashid Shaheed filled in for Horton and showed his versatility with one reception, twenty rushing yards on two attempts, a punt return fair catch, and most impressive was his three kickoff returns for 67 yards.
Multiple looks on the back end
The Seahawks started the Cardinals with Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon at cornerback, with Coby Bryant and Ty Okada at safety, and quickly switched to nickel and dime packages that included Nick Emmanwori and Nehemiah Pritchett. The return of Jobe will give Macdonald more defensive schemes to use against the Rams.
