Seahawks place Julian Love and Eric Saubert on injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks made several roster moves ahead of Sunday Night’s game with the Commanders. Safety Julian Love (hamstring) and tight end Eric Saubert (calf) were both placed on injured reserve, meaning both players will miss four weeks. It’s been a frustrating season for Love, who has not played three consecutive games this season due to a hamstring injury.

Love started the first two games of the season, was inactive in week three against the Saints, and returned to the field in week four against the Cardinals. Love was inactive for the next three games, and it was hoped he would return after last week’s bye week. A setback during practice this week resulted in the team placing Love on the injured reserve list.

Saubert joins Love on the injured reserve list.

Saubert has been the team’s third tight end and a major special team contributor. Saubert’s lone start was against the Cardinals. Rookie fullback Roobie Ouzts and safety Jerrick Reed II were elevated to the 53-man roster to fill the roster positions vacated by Love and Saubert.

THE RETURN OF DEVON WITHERSPOON

One player returning to the secondary is cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who has played in just two of the Seahawks seven games due to a knee injury.

“I’m excited for him. Our team’s excited to play with him again. He’s one of the guys that adds such great energy, competitiveness, and spirit to our defense. To his credit, you felt him on the sideline when he wasn’t playing., ” said Mike Macdonald after the teams friday prctice .”Him and really all those other guys that hadn’t been playing have been awesome helping the guys out between series and cheering them on from the sideline, but it’ll be great to have him out there.”

Wide receiver rooms suffers setback

The Seahawks wide receiver room suffered a double set back this week. Cooper Kupp ( hamstring) and Jake Bobo ( achilles) were limited in practice this week. It now looks like both will be out for Sundays game

I’ll go ahead and start with the injury situation. Coop (Cooper Kupp) and (Jake) Bobo just happened in practice, it’s unfortunate. We’ll see with Coop and hopefully those guys will be back soon. We’ve got some guys ready to go that have a great opportunity in front of them. We’re doing one day travel because it’s a primetime game, so we’ll be leaving here tomorrow.” Bobo has been ruled out Sundays game

WHAT IT ALL MEANS

While the loss of Love is a loss, Ty Okada, Nick Emmanwori have filled and miminmized the absence of Love . The return of Witherspoon will give Macdonald and DC Aden Durde options. Jaxson Smith-Njigba is having an All Pro season. Washington will pay special attention to Smith-Njigba and should create opportunities for Tory Horton, Cody White and Ricky White III. White participated in the season open but has not seen any action since. Sunday will be White III first game day elevation from the practice squad. The Commanders defense is ranked 27th overall. If the Seahawks can establish a run game to counter the pass game Sunday should be walk in the park.
