Sounders receive some good news on injured duo

In the span of seven minutes in his team’s game with the Vancouver Whitecaps, head coach Brian Schmetzer had 50% of his backline go down with game-ending injuries.

In the 2-2 draw with the Whitecaps, Alex Roldan suffered a high injury and was replaced by Kalani Kossa-Rienzi.   Seven minutes later, center back  Yeimar Gomez went down with a right hamstring strain.  Gomez was replaced by Kim Kee-Hee in the 18th minute. As expected, Schmetzer was unable to give immediate updates after the game.

TUESDAY UPDATE

The team returned to the training ground on Tuesday, and Schmetzer gave a somewhat positive update on the two injured players.

“ Alex was kind of a tweak in his hip, and that one’s good news. He might be back for the Portland match.
Depends if it calms down a little bit more. The motion, the action kind of was more than the actual, you know, injury itself.
It was just more of an awkward twisting tip injury, “said Schmetzer.

The Sounders host the Timbers on Saturday.

MORE  RECOVERY TIME

The news regarding Yeimar was not so positive.

Yeimar will be out for four weeks. It’s a strain. It’s not a complete strain it’s not like,  Kent’s ( Ryan)  or anybody’s like that or what he had earlier in the year, but it’s definitely something there, so it’ll be out four weeks. The four-week projected timeline return would see Yeimar return in time for the  playoffs.

He’s always been pretty. His recovery has always been pretty good. Uh, you know, but we’ll obviously take it easy because you know, you  he had one at the end of last year in the playoffs and then this year and then now again.
So we’ll have to make sure that he’s right, said Schmetzer
