On the front end, the Seahawks’ Thursday night game with the Arizona Cardinals made for a hectic and crammed schedule. On the back end, the schedule allowed the Seahawks a mini bye. Players were given Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to rest up, heal, and be with family. The fact that the Seahawks left Glendale with a 23-20 victory made life that much more pleasurable for the team.
RETURN TO NORMAL
The players and coaches returned to Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Monday.
“ We treated it like a miniature bye (week). So, some self-scout stuff, some around the league stuff, work ahead on Tampa, all the above. It was good, and took some time to get away for a minute, which I think was important for everybody.”
Monday served as a bonus practice for the Seahawks. Bonus in that the team could practice, but did not have to submit an injury report to the league.
SELF SCOUT SOME POSITIVES AND SOME NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS
As for the self-scout during the bye, Macdonald felt the 3-1 Seahawks had some positive performances in the first four games with plenty of needed improvement.
“We’re in a cool spot because we’ve figured out a way to win games, and we also feel like we have a lot of room for growth, and the guys feel the same way, said Macdonald.” There’s an urgency there to go keep attacking, keep figuring out ways to get better, improve on the things and the mentality that we have throughout games, and it’s exciting. It’s exciting to have room for growth and also have some wins in the win column.”
INTERIOR PLAY
Two position groups that have stood out in the first four games have been the defensive line and the offensive line. The defensive line has recorded 14 sacks, led by Bryon Murphy II and Leonard Williams, who each have three sacks. The push upfront from Williams, Murphy, Jarran Reed, and Demarcus Lawrence has been one of the primary reasons the Seahawks defense is ranked 13th overall, allowing just 16.8 points per game, which is the second-best in the league.
OFFENSIVE LINE
The Seahawks’ offensive line has also stood out. While the offense is tied for 16th in total yards per game at 332, the unit is ranked sixth in scoring with 26.3 points per game. The cohesiveness of Abe Lucas, Anthony Bradford, Jalen Sundell, Grey Zabell, and Charles Cross has turned the Seahawks’ offensive line into a formidable unit.
“It’s incredibly important, I think the guys that haven’t had the opportunities yet, for them staying up to speed and ready to go, I think we feel great about the next guys in the game too, “ said Macdonald. “Just like any unit, you’re going to build that chemistry over time. We’re fortunate that the O-line has been intact. And then at some point, it’s not going to be, and we’ll work through that with the stuff that we worked through on defense, stuff up to this point.”
