The Huskies’ RB Jonah Coleman continued to show he is one of the nation’s top running backs. On Saturday, the UW’s star running back rushed for five touchdowns and had a game for the record books. The game was not all about Coleman. The UW was looking to take the next step following a 38-21 win over Colorado State. Head coach Jedd Fisch wanted to see improvement from his team in all three phases of the game in week two. The Fisch saw that and a whole lot more in Saturday’s blowout win over the UC Davis Aggies.
The Huskies start fast against UC Davis
The Huskies’ defense started the game with a bang! DE Jacob Lane sacked Aggies’ QB Caden Pinnick on the game’s first play. After the defense forced a three-and-out, UW’s offense went to work. QB Demond Williams Jr. hit WR Rashid Williams for a 27-yard catch over the middle. Coleman then had two big runs, one for 18 yards, the second a 15-yard TD run. The defense then forced another three-and-out. The Huskies’ offense then put together a six-play 60-yard TD drive. Jonah Coleman capped the drive with another TD run.
UW’s offense spread the wealth early to multiple receivers
After hitting WR Rashid Williams on the first drive of the game, QB Demond Williams found freshman WR Raiden Vines-Bright on the second drive. Williams threw a beautiful 45-yard pass to Vines-Bright, which set up the eventual TD run from Coleman. On the third drive, Williams completed passes to WRs Dezmen Roebuck and Denzel Boston. Williams later scrambled into the end zone to put the Huskies up 21-3 to cap the 12-play, 63-yard TD drive.

Huskies’ RB Jonah Coleman runs wild
Coleman simply put on a show Saturday night against the Aggies. The Doak Walker Running Back of the Week in week one had a career day against UC Davis. Coleman had a phenomenal first half for the Huskies. Coleman rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries and scored four rushing TDs, setting a new career-high in the first half of the game. Coleman then tied the modern UW school record with Corey Dillon on his fifth rushing touchdown to start the second half. He finished with 111 yards rushing and five rushing TDs. Coleman was quick to thank his teammates for helping him tie a school record.
“It hasn’t really hit me yet. I just want to shout out my O-line and appreciate them boys, they make me look good. Receivers blocking down field, and Demond making those disconnects like that, you know. I give my props to them boys,’ said Coleman after the game.
While he was impressed with Coleman’s on-field performance, Fisch also pointed out that his star running back had a similar performance off the field.
“I mean, he had 15 carries, and five of them were touchdowns, so, pretty good performance. I also want to say that he won the academic athlete of the Year, here for a football team, the highest cumulative GPA of our entire football team of the 3.91. So, over the year that he’s been here, so we were able to reward him for that as well, so pretty cool day. He posted on his Twitter yesterday and his Instagram yesterday, that award that he got from our academic services. Then today he had five touchdowns. It’s a pretty good weekend.”

Huskies dominate on both sides of the ball
UW’s offense put up 628 yards of total offense against UC Davis on Saturday. QB Demond Williams was 16/25, for 254 yards, threw for a touchdown, ran for 64 yards, and had a rushing touchdown. Freshman receiver Dezmen Roebuck led all receivers with four catches for 77 yards and his first career TD. The Huskies’ defense had three sacks. Zach Durfee, Isaiah Ward, and Jacob Lane each recorded a sack. UW’s defense held the Aggies’ offense to just 10 points and 218 total yards. The Huskies’ special teams also came through, as Denzel Boston returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown. UW defeated UC Davis 70-10 on Saturday and will now have a bye week before taking on the Cougars in the Apple Cup. Here is what Jedd Fisch said after the game:
“That was a fun game for the University of Washington. I thought our crowd was great. I thought our crowd got loud. We had a couple false starts due to crowd noise, delay of game, it caused a timeout. So that was awesome. It was awesome to see our crowd get into this game. It was awesome to have a 22-game home win streak. Okay, so that’s pretty cool. And now we’re going to focus on getting the Apple Cup back.”
Clearly, Jedd Fisch was happy with his team’s performance after the game. He also acknowledged how important playing in front of a home crowd is for this team. The Huskies extended their win streak to 22 games at Husky Stadium. Which they will put to the test in three weeks against Ohio State. He also talked about how during this bye week the focus will shift to WSU and working to win the Apple Cup.
