The Seattle Seahawks placed second-year safety Nick Emmanwori on the physically unable to perform list ( PUP) just days before training. In addition to Emmonwari, the team also placed the running back Kenny McIntosh and the cornerback Tyrone Broden on the PUP list. The placement of McIntosh and Broden is not a surprise. The Emmanwori announcement raises some early questions. Per the NFLPA Bargaining Agreement, players can be removed from the list after passing a team physical. f If a player is on the list at the start of the regular season, that player must miss four games.
SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT
Emmanwori participated in all of the team’s offseason workouts and spoke to the media during the final week of offseason practices. The second-year starter from South Carolina was a key part of the Seahawks’ defense, which made use of his unique talents. At 3, 220lb, Emmanwori had both speed and strength and, as a result, was able to play as a third safety/nickelback who could play in the box. Manning started 11 regular-season and all three playoff games and was the only player in the NFL to record at least 80 tackles (81), two sacks ( 2.5), 10 pass defenses (11), and eight tackles for a loss.
FIGHTING TO STAY HEALTHY
For McIntosh, the PUP designation is just another step in his recovery from a knee injury that kept him out for all of last season. It has been a battle to stay healthy for McIntosh, who was drafted in the seventh round from Georgia in 2023, suffered a knee injury in training camp, and was limited to just four regular-season games. n In024, McIntosh played in 17 games, had 31 carries for 172 yards, before another knee injury wiped out the 2025 season.
POSITION SWITCH
Broden was placed on the injured reserve list with a thigh injury last November and is making a position switch from wide receiver to cornerback. The Seahawks signed Broden as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 draft. The Seahawks placed rookie defensive tackle Deven Eastern on the PUP list on Friday. Neither layer took part in preseason workouts.
