The first practice of the Seahawks’ regular season started with what looked to be a healthy crew. Since this is a bonus practice, the team does not need to submit an injury report till Wednesday’s practice .
SOME HEALTHY RETURNS
Be that as it may, out on the field for the Seahawks were wide receiver Jake Bobo, who was on concussion protocol. Tory Horton, another wideout, was also on the field for pre-practice warm-up drills. Joining them were the two wideouts and linebacker Tyrice Knight. Head coach Mike Macdonald was clear in his post-practice press conference that he would keep the players’ injury status close to the vest for the time being.
“I hate to disappoint, but there’s no injury report today, we will let you know accordingly on Wednesday, hope you respect that, “ said Macdonald.” Good work today, the guys were back in the building, locked in. Really good day, and day off tomorrow, and we’re in normal in-season cadence at this point.”
ROSTER MOVES
The team made one roster move on Monday when it announced the signing of D’Anthony Bell to the practice squad and waived guard Satoa Laumea to make room for the Bell signing.
FOCUS IS NOW ON THE NINERS
With their administration duties taken care of for the moment, Macdonald and his staff are now preparing for Sunday’s opener against the Niners. One mystery revealed by Macdonald for Sunday’s opener was the starting offensive line. Charles Cross will start at left tackle, Abraham Lucas at right tackle, Gray Zabel at right guard, Anthony Bradford at right guard, and Jalen Sundell at the center position. Christian Haynes was placed on injured reserve, raising questions about depth on the offensive line.
“We’re with one less guard. That’s what we feel. We’ve got some young guys ready to go and step in if somebody couldn’t find their helmet. We’ll go from there. Olu’s (Oluwatimi) probably the next guy in the game. Jalen (Sundell) would go to guard, is the plan right now.”
PREPARING ROOKIES FOR THEIR FIRST SEASON
A strong draft class by the Seahawks means several of the team’s talented young players like G Gray Zabel, S Nick Emmanwori, WR Tory Horton, TE Elijah Arroyo, FB Robbie Outzs, and LB Connor o’Tollo are bound to see significant are in line to make significant contributions to the team in a long season.
“Well they have done a great job so far. I think the next challenge to them is getting in an in-season routine and cadence that they can grab a hold of and they kind of make it theirs. Everybody’s routine is different throughout the week. You have to figure out what works for you. Our vets have been awesome with it, our coaches are great with helping them out as best we can, but ultimately, they have to figure out what works for those guys. It’s a long season, but if you take it day by day, period by period, stack those things, you’ll get to Week 13, 14, and it should just be another week for you.”
