Milroe will start and play all four quarters in the team’s preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers Saturday afternoon. The announcement has no doubt put the 12’s in a frenzy. The 6’2 dual-threat former Tide quarterback was drafted in the third round, which was a coup for the Seahawks.
In his final season with the Tide, Milroe completed 205 passes on 319 attempts for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Milroe had 20 rushing touchdowns.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE
While the 12’s expectations of Milroe are over the moon, Macdonald is confident his rookie will play well and showcase his dual-threat skills.
“ It’s a great opportunity for him to get great experience. All rookies, they need reps, they need experience, and Jalen (Milroe) was right there. I know he’s excited about the opportunity, and I’m confident he’ll do a great job. Go out and operate the offense and go play ball the way you know how and let’s go, said Macdonald.
Milroe has seen playing time in the Seahawks’ first two preseason games, completing 9 of 15 passes for 107 yards, with eight rushing attempts for 56 yards. Against the Chiefs Milroe was behind center when the Seahawks attempted their first tush push in team history.
“ We got a first down. Looked pretty good. We’ve already done it, so it’s on tape. It’s essential to be able to convert in those short-yard situations. It’s a good play right now,” said Macdonald.
STARTERS WILL NOT PLAY
With the starters scheduled to watch the game from the sideline, Milroe be leading the second and third string players fighting for a roster spot. That scenario will give Milroe a chance to showcase his leadership. Milroe his familiar and comfortable with being a leader. At Alabama, he was selected team captain his last two years with the Tide.
OFFENSIVE LINE ANNOUNCEMENT FORTHCOMING
The biggest question going into training camp has been the state of the offensive line. While there has been intense battles at center, right guard and left tackle it seems the team has settled on a starting core.
“We’ll probably make an announcement. Probably sometime next week, said Macdonald when asked about the offensive line competition.
POSITIVE INJURY UPDATES
On the injury front Macdonald reported that Uchenna Nwosu is close to full practice participation.
“We did an individual period here with AD (Aden Durde) before practice, fully padded. Looked great, felt great. This is the first time the guy’s put on pads in almost a year, well, not almost a year, but since the season, so great first day back, it looked positive and we will keep building it out from here.”
According to Macdonald, the team received positive news regarding Tyrice Knight, who has missed the last several practices with an undisclosed medical issue.
“We got some great news today. That’s what I was referring to earlier in the week. Now we’re activating the plan. We’ll see how long it takes, but a really positive day on T-Knight (Tyrice Knight) front this morning, “ added Macdonald
Charles Cross is the other player Macdonald was ecstatic about when delivering the news that he will be ready for Week 1 after having surgery to repair a dislocated ring find in July.
“There’s never any absolutes, but that’s a fair assumption that he’ll be ready to go. Not being able to play in the game and then coming in and having this is why we do the practice so you can be in this environment and have good physical competition and test it out. They said it went all right.”
