Logan Gilbert’s shows that he’s truly back, while Cal Raleigh enters special territory with his game-winning home run for the Mariners.
If there was any doubt about Logan Gilbert now being fully recovered from his right elbow flexor strain, it was surely removed on Tuesday night. In arguably his best outing of the 2025 season to date, the righty put in a performance which held the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers at bay and helped the Seattle Mariners emerge victorious.
As alluded to in a 1-0 win, this was a tight and nervous game for the Mariners and the 32,189 people in attendance at T-Mobile Park. However, the home side managed to hold on thanks to some stellar pitching all around, but highlighted by Gilbert’s longest outing since opening day against the Athletics.
The 28-year-old actually had a perfect game going through 4.0 innings, but fortunately for the Mariners he didn’t fall apart like George Kirby did in the sixth just one night earlier. In all he threw 86 pitches over 6.1 innings, in the process allowing just two hits, no walks and — most importantly — no runs.
Gilbert also tied a season-high with 10 strikeouts, with the first one representing the 800th K of his Major League career. As a result he became the seventh pitcher in Mariners history to reach 800 strikeouts, while also being the third-fastest to achieve this behind only Randy Johnson and Mark Langston.
Logan Gilbert happy with what he showed on the night

Postgame, Gilbert was asked about how good it felt to be able to pitch into the seventh inning against the Brewers. He said:
“Yes that was nice – it’s been a while. I feel like I did it quite a bit last year, but not as much so far (in 2025). It’s something I try to take pride in, so it was nice to be out there a little bit longer tonight.”
The 2018 14th overall draft pick was also asked about what was working for him throughout the outing. He said:
“We were getting ahead pretty good after the first or second. It felt like I was keeping the ball low and that helped – fastball command, slider down, splitter when we were ahead. Cal had a good mix back there, a pretty good game plan”.
Cal Raleigh continues to be the main man for the Mariners

Of course no matter how good your pitching is, it won’t count for much if you don’t do anything offensively yourselves. The Mariners did the bare minimum with just four hits on the night, but the key one was courtesy of Cal Raleigh’s solo blast in the bottom of the sixth.
This represented the 39th home run of the season for Raleigh, which leads the majors. Of historical significance he has now hit 132 homers in his career, which ties Ken Griffey Jr. for the most by a Mariners player though their first five seasons.
The Mariners’ clubhouse leader discussed the big moment postgame. As per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, he said:
“I feel like I’ve been a little late to the heaters lately. So I think, obviously, to start the game with (Jacob) Misiorowski throwing really hard, I had to get ready for the heater. And I did a good job there, seeing the ball well.”

Mariners bullpen locks it down
The Mariners bullpen then took over and combined to do an excellent job, until Andrés Muñoz had a little trouble in the top of the ninth. However, after finding himself in a one-out, two-runners-on-base situation, he managed to work through it and tie his career-high of 22 saves in a season.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson made sure to spread the credit when speaking to the media afterwards, but understandably focused quite a bit on Gilbert and the relievers. He said:
“Heck of a ballgame tonight. It had its share of drama for sure, but just a great job all around. Logan tonight was at his best and that was a pretty impressive performance from him. … I can’t say enough about the job our bullpen did tonight. Had to go to it a couple of times, but they all did the job and slammed the door.”
With the victory the Mariners improve to 54-47 and stay 5.0 games behind the Houston Astros at the AL West summit, but also maintain a wild card spot. Luis Castillo will get the ball for Wednesday afternoon’s rubber match, as the M’s aim to stop the Brewers’ run of four consecutive series wins.
