Special report from Hawk Mania
Here is why Zy Alexander will make the Seahawks’ 53-man roster as CB3:
Zy Alexander is an outside man-press cornerback who is 6’1″ 187 lbs and was projected to be drafted in the 4th round. He was also considered the 17th-best cornerback in the 2025 NFL draft.
The team only has Riq Woolen at Left cornerback one and his backups are considered LCB2 Shemar Jean-Charles and LCB3 Isas Waxter. Right cornerback one is Josh Jobe and his backups are considered RCB2 Nehemiah Pritchett and RCB3 Bump Cooper Jr. Nickel back one is Devon Witherspoon and his backups are NB2 Tyler Hall and NB3 Damarion Williams [per ESPN]. There is not that much depth at CB . Alexander has natural instincts in zone coverage with an ability to create leverage , bait throws from QBs, jump routes with calculated aggression with exceptional spatial awareness. Alexander can be a physical corner at the line in press coverage. He loves using his length to disrupt timing and reroute receivers when his technique is clean. He could make the roster as CB3.
IS JARED IVEY A KEEPER ?
Jared Ivey will make the practice squad then the 53-man and earn the right to be protected by the team or safely make the roster.
Ivey is a versatile defensive lineman who is 6’6″ 274 lbs and was projected to be drafted in the 3rd round. He was also considered the 23rd-best defensive lineman in the 2025 NFL draft.
He would have to have an impressive offseason camp and workout with the team in June. If he moves to WLB, he would have to beat out Jamie Sheriff and Tyreke Smith, who both have NFL experience under the belt. I don’t see him beating either of those players out. If he stays at SLB, he MIGHT be safe because he would be their 3rd string SLB and beat out Connor O’Toole who is also battling for “that position.” Another reason is his advanced understanding of rush angles and setup moves, displaying sophisticated footwork to manipulate tackles before deploying his devastating cross-chop move. He can also demonstrate impressive versatility with the ability to rush from multiple alignments, showing particular effectiveness when reducing inside on passing downs.
But it will also depend on whether HC Mike Macdonald wants to carry a 3rd string SLB and WLB on the team. This is why I believe that Ivey will be cut but brought back to the practice squad. Teams can protect up to 4 players on the practice squad each week. That will prevent other teams from signing them.
