Already struggling through a tough start to the 2025 season, the Seattle Mariners will now likely be without Victor Robles until July.
The Seattle Mariners will be the first to admit they haven’t played up to expectations thus far, with a 4-7 record through 11 games. It’s still early and with plenty of time to get back on track, but now they are going to have to climb back up the standings without one of the best players in their lineup.
As announced by Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander, Víctor Robles is projected to be out until July. The outfielder suffered a dislocated left shoulder in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday in San Francisco, after making a spectacular catch in foul territory.
Imaging taken on Monday revealed the dislocation caused a small fracture in the humeral head in Robles’ left shoulder. Hollander advised it appears the fracture should heal without the need for surgery, but it will be monitored to confirm this remains the case.
As things stand, the fracture should heal in approximately six weeks, followed by a rehabilitation schedule of around another six weeks. However, it is important to note that the fracture should heal in around six weeks IF no surgery is required.
Not the worst-case scenario but still not great for Mariners
In any event Robles will effectively now be out for at least half of the 2025 season, for a Mariners lineup and offense which is still the biggest question mark on this roster. They will undoubtedly miss the services of a player who rejuvenated his career in Seattle after joining the team last June and subsequently signed a two-year, $9.75 million contract extension.
The 27-year-old provided an excellent boost for the Mariners, as he produced a 3.1 WAR and .860 OPS in 77 games last season. While not off to as great a start in 2025, he was still one of the more reliable bats in the lineup prior to his injury, with him in the leadoff spot and one of the best base runners on the team.

Options to replace Robles in the right outfield
Assuming the Mariners don’t look externally for Robles’ replacement, the expectation is that Luke Raley will take up his position in right field, with Raley better in the outfield compared to infield as it is. Other potential options to offer some depth in the outfield include Dominic Canzone, Miles Mastrobuoni and Dylan Moore.
More generally speaking the Mariners really do need the lineup to pick up the slack more in 2025, with the pitching so far not at the same level as last year, when they were statistically number one in the Majors in a whole host of important categories. Ahead of Tuesday’s slate of games, the M’s are ranked 22nd in team batting average, 21st in OPS and tied-21st in runs.
How concerned are you about the prospect of no Robles until around July time? Do you have belief in the Mariners to start winning more consistently, or do you worry that this is going to be a tough year in Seattle? Let us know in the comments section below.
