Mariners confirm pre-arbitration signings and Mitch Garver injured

The Mariners have taken care of some important business, by getting all pre-arbitration eligible players under contract for the 2025 season.

Monday was a productive day for the Seattle Mariners, as they announced a whole host of signings. As confirmed by Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander, all pre-arbitration eligible players are now under contract for the 2025 season.

In total 28 players have agreed terms for this year, including 24 pre-arbitration eligible players on the 40-man roster. The breakdown is 16 pitchers and eight position players on the 40-man roster, as well as one pitcher and three position players who were tendered 2025 contracts and are not currently on the 40-man roster.

Mariners signings breakdown

The 16 pitchers on the 40-man roster are all right-handed pitchers and include Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo, who will both be integral to the rotation in 2025. Similarly, Matt Brash and Gregory Santos are both returning from injury and will be vital to the bullpen being stronger and deeper than last year:

Eduard Bazardo, Cody Bolton, Matt Brash, Blas Castano, Hagen Danner, Emerson Hancock, Will Klein, Jackson Kowar, Casey Legumina, Seth Martinez, Bryce Miller, Gregory Santos, Collin Snider, Troy Taylor, Carlos Vargas, Bryan Woo. (Lefty Austin Kitchen is not on the 40-man roster.)

Key among the eight position players on the 40-man roster is Luke Raley, who is projected to form part of a platoon at first base with Donovan Solano. Although keep an eye on Tyler Locklear, who could be in line to get a look at first base himself in 2025, pending how Raley and Solano fare in the early going:

Infielder Ryan Bliss, outfielder Dominic Canzone, catcher Blake Hunt, infielder Tyler Locklear, infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni, infielder/outfielder Luke Raley, infielder Leo Rivas, infielder Austin Shenton. (Catcher Nick Raposo and infielder/outfielders Cade Marlowe and Samad Taylor are not on the 40-man roster.)

Mitch Garver injured

There’s no denying Mitch Garver’s first season in Seattle was a disaster, as he suffered the worst offensive year of his Major League career. The hope was that the only way would be up for the designated hitter and backup catcher in 2025, but perhaps we spoke too soon.

Garver had to exit Monday’s 7-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, after being hit by a pitch. As per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, at the time of writing the Mariners are still awaiting results for X-rays to his hand and wrist area, so it can only be hoped that it is nothing serious.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Garver, with him being one of the Mariners’ best bats so far in Cactus League play. He has a .444/.476/.944 slash line and 1.420 OPS in 18 at-bats, leads the team with three home runs and is tied-third with six RBI.

Pending the result of X-rays, how confident are you in what Gaver will contribute in 2025? Will he bounce back and show why the Mariners signed him in the first place, or do you expect him to struggle like he did last year? Let us know in the comments section below.
