Seahawks shuffle roster release  Dre’Mont Jones, Roy Robertson-Harris, Rayshawn Jenkins, and  George  Fant.

The Seahawks released four veterans as they begin reconstructing their roster for the upcoming 2025. With the combine in the rearview mirror and the draft looming, the team has turned its focus on reshaping its roster. The team’s release of Jones, Robertson—Harris, Jenkins, and Fant clears   $27.25 million in the salary cap. The move leaves the team with $18.4 in dead money.

 OVER THE CAP Dead Money

George Fant$1,850,000
D.J. James$138,324
TOTAL$18,671,247

The Seahawks now have $16,408,234 in cap space. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s much improved from Monday, when the team started the day $6.8 million over the cap. The NFL’s free agency period will begin  March 10, giving teams two days to negotiate contracts in time for the league’s fiscal year, which begins March 12th.

WHY THE PLAYERS WERE CUT

The release of the four marks the start of many changes to the Seahawks roster. The moves give a glimpse of the Team’s direction.

Jones was signed two years ago as a free agent and had decent numbers in his time with the team. He appeared in 34 games, started 16 games in 2023 and seven last season, and totaled 8.5 sacks, 77 tackles, 25 quarterback hits, and 12 tackles for losses. The issue for Jones was his high cap hit.

HEALTH ISSUES

Fant returned to the Seahawks in 2024 to provide depth on the offensive line. He started the first game of 2024 for Abe Lucas, suffered a hand injury, and never made it back on the field due to injuries.

Jenkins signed with the Seahawks as a free agent and opened the season alongside Julian Love. A hand injury placed him on injured reserve, and once the hand healed, he was unable to regain his starting position due to stellar play by Coby Bryant. Jenkins finished his season starting nine games and appearing in 13, recording 53 tackles, 2.0 sacks, and a 102-yard fumble return touchdown.

The release of Robertson- Harris was due to performance. The Seahawks acquired him in a trade from Jacksonville during the season, and he never performed up to expectations.

He appeared in 11 games and recorded  13 tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass defensed, and one quarterback hit
