Sounders new look offense shines in 4-0 preason finale win

The Sounders tied a big  Rave Green bow to wrap up their preseason with a pair of victories over Louisville  City  FC Wednesday afternoon at the  Swedish Performance Center.    A   4-0 win was followed by a 3-0 shutout win in the double header friendly.  Next for the Sounders will be a Wednesday match with Guatemalan side  Antigua FC. The game in Guatemala will be leg one of the two-legged Concafa Champions tournament.

A  GOOD START

Wednesday’s win over the USL Champion side was expected.  In all honesty, the surprise would have been if the Sounders ended up on the losing side of the two 90-minute pre-season tune-up. The first match featured strong lineups from both sides. The second match was an opportunity for backups on both sides to make a case to move up the pecking order.  In the first match, head coach Brian Schmetzer rolled out what can and probably will be a starting lineup in the upcoming season.

Sounders FC Lineup – Stefan Frei; Alex Roldan, Yeimar Gómez Andrade, Jackson Ragen, Nouhou; Obed Vargas, Cristian Roldan; Jesús Ferreira (Georgi Minougou 73’), Pedro de la Vega, Paul Arriola; Jordan Morris

The new look and dynamic attacking style continued on Wednesday. The four goals scored in the starter’s match resulted from extra players being in the box.

BREAKING DOWN THE GOALS

Jesus Ferreira’s corner kick into the  Louisville goal mouth found a streaking  Cristian Roldan flicked the ball to an onrushing de la Vega, who buried the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. A classic counterattack doubled the Sounder’s lead.  Alex Roldan passed the ball up the right flank to Jordan Morris, who dribbled into the top of the box and played the ball to Ferreira, who slid the ball to an on-rushing Cristian Roldan.      Ferreira’s free kick to Jackson Ragen was headed into the penalty box.

Into the back of the net by Yeimar after the Louisville FC goalkeeper saved a spectacular bicycle kick attempt by Pedro de la Vega The fourth goal was another transition goal on the left flank. Nouho passed the ball to Morris, who held it long enough to find a streaking Paul Arriola. Arriola slid the ball to de la Vega and
