Seahawks looking to finish the season the right way in season finale with Rams

With no playoff birth on the line in Sunday’s season finale with the  NFC West Division Champs Los Angeles Rams, the  Seahawks are looking to finish the season on a positive note.  A win over the Rams would split the season series with the Rams, who beat the Seahawks earlier this season in Lumen Field and give first-year head coach Mike Macdonald a ten-win season.

“Yeah, we’ve talked about the circumstances, but our guys have been great. They’re putting in the work just like we’ve done every week and our goals haven’t changed, but we’ve had great days of practice, great days of prep. So guys are really adamant about finishing the right way,” said Macdonald after his teams last Friday practice of the season.

NO ABE LUCAS

If the Seahawks are going to beat the Rams, they will have to do it without right tackle Abe Lucas. Lucas was ruled out for Sunday’s season finale due to an elbow injury. With  Lucas out,  Stone Forsythe or Michael  Jarrell will start. Who it will be will not be known until game time due to some coach gamesmanship by Macdonald.

“Yeah, him (Michael Jerrell) and Stone (Forsythe) would be the next guys up, and then just like you said, we expect when guys come and fill in, come play at a high level, come play winning football for us and that’s why you prepare every day so when your opportunity comes, you can go take the field and help us out on Sunday. So good opportunity for both those guys.”

Jerrell has started two games at right tackle this season,  against the Falcons in week 8 and the Buffalo Bills in Week Nine. Forsythe had five starts this season. Week  Two at NE, Week three versus the Dolphins, Week Four at Detroit, Week five versus the Giants, and  Week six versus the Niners. A hand injury in week seven against the Falcons landed Forsythe on injured reserve until December 18th. Forsythe practiced in the  Vikings and Bears games.

GENO SMITH LIMITED  PRACTICE PARTICIPANT

Another game-time decision for the Seahawks will be rookie defensive end Byron Murphy II.

A back ailment saw Murphy take limited reps during the team’s Wednesday practice, completely miss the Thursday practice, and return to limited participation during the  Friday practice.  Murphy is listed as questionable for Sunday.  Quarterback Geno Smith saw limited reps during Friday’s practice because of his right elbow. Smith looks to be okay since he was not listed on any of the team’s game-day status designations.

LAST GAME FOR TYER LOCKETT AS A SEAHAWK?

After ten years with the Seattle Seahawks, Sunday’s game could be the last for Tyler Lockett. A third-round draft pick in 2015, Lockett is second to  Steve Largent in receiving yards, touchdowns, most receptions, and most combined yards. Lockett has been a team captain, club leader, and three-time Steve Largent Award winner in 2021, 2022, and  2024. The award is voted on by players and given to the player or coach who best exemplifies the spirit, dedication, and integrity of the Seahawks. Lockett and linebacker Ernest Jones IV were team captains for Sunday’s game.  Macdonald was asked about Lockett’s commitment and dedication to the team and community.

“You think about Tyler (Lockett) and his career and the arc of his career and to have that mentality, man, just the humility, putting the team first. What else can you ask for? And he loves  ball. That guy comes out here. He’s been doing it for such a long time, but the enthusiasm, the attitude, the productivity, man. The city knows Tyler, shoot, better than I do, but coming to know him this year has been a blessing for me personally too. I mean this guy, he’s just one of one. We absolutely love him,” said Macdonald.
