A quirk in the schedule gave the Seahawks a rare mini after their Thursday Night loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It’s a small consolation for playing three games in ten days and losing all three. The coaching staff gave the players several days off and used the time to huddle up and take a deeper look at the team’s three-game losing streak.
“ A great opportunity this week. Guys are in great spirits. Felt like we had a great couple of days to take a step back with the players getting out of here and us to really take a look at the things that we’ve done well, things we’ve got to improve on, kind of a full digest of where we’re at as a football team and we’re able to identify as many things as we can on each side of the ball without going crazy, said head coach Mike Macdonald. “ There are only so many things you can get done in a week, but just take it one step at a time. But looking forward to a great practice today, we’re in pads and a great week of prep.”
RUN DEFENSE
Undoubtedly, running defense was front and center on McDonald’s to-do list. The Seahawks defense is giving up 144 yards per game ( 27th ) and allowing 25 points per game, which ranks them 25th in the league. Another issue has been the lack of turnovers; the team has two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
“The good news is there’s a lot of good stuff. The bad news is there’s a chunk of plays that are really bad and the ball is getting out, and there are just way too many explosives. You can’t play the if you take those plays out game, “ said Macdonald when asked about the team’s run game issues. “That’s not reality. But, it does it kind of sober you up because it’s not every play. So it’s ‘Hey, this is what’s happening on these select group of plays, and let’s go to work at it. Let’s get it, let’s make it right.”
REINFORCEMENT
With Uchenna Nwosu placed on injured reserve and slated to miss a minimum of four games, the team traded for Roy Robertson-Harris. The Hawks acquired Robertson-Harris for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2026 draft.
” It’s just an opportunity to get a really good player that we have a lot of respect for. He’s big, he’s tough, he’s rugged, I think we use the term ‘position flexibility’ probably too much, but he does do that and can play really all three gaps upfront, so gives us a great opportunity to have a pretty deep front.” .
BIG PICTURE
The balance for McDonald and his coaching staff will be to make a change without losing the team’s identity. This is unlikely to happen since the team, the coaching staff, and the player are not in panic mode. According to several players, McDonald‘s Tell the Truth Monday meeting was direct and process-driven rather than a finger-pointing session. “ It was always about the we and never one individual or finger-pointing s,” said Julian Love. “ Players respond to authenticity.”
