Monday rewind of the Seahawks win over the Miami Dolphins

The Seahawks improved to 3-0 and sit atop NFC West with a two-game lead over the rest of the teams in the Division. The defense continues to lead the way, while the offense is doing just enough to secure victories.

A STATISTICAL LOOK BACK AT THE SEAHAWKS

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Many players balled out on the defensive side of the ball and a few on the offensive side. Zach Charbonnet, DK Metcalf and Geno Smith had impressive games. Boye Mafe two quarterback hits and another sacks. Tyrice Knight received his first NFL start and played the part with 6 tackles fve of which were solo. My player of the game has to be Rayshawn Jenkins who led the team with 10 tackles eight of which solo and two were combined.

NOTABLE QUOTES FROM MACDONALD MONDAY PRSS CONFERENCE

ON THE HIGH NUMBER OF PENALTIES

“It’s kind of both sides. All three phases. I don’t know the full number, but way too many. We categorize penalties because if you’re going to toe the line and play on the line, then there are going to be some penalties that you have to be willing to accept to a certain extent. The ones yesterday probably don’t fall into that category, so we will address those and try to learn from them the best we can. Some of them are decisions that we’re making in real-time so that we can be smarter. Some of them, we’re not putting ourselves in a position where we can either block or do whatever our job is and do it legally, so we’re going to have to be better in those situations.”

On Devon Witherspoon’s play after coming from the opposite side of the field

“I haven’t talked to Spoon (Devon Witherspoon) about what we were talking about as a defense. I mean Spoon’s three penalties from the whole season, I think he’s had three, which has come from just incredible effort. There was one, we screwed up a cover one against New England. He covered for the other defensive back and probably could have made a better decision late in the play, but up till the very last tenth of a second, you would’ve said that was a phenomenal play. The same thing goes for the (Jaylen) Waddle screen pass that reverse course, and the guy’s just flying, and you’re turning the corner. It’s a clear penalty, but probably could have made a smarter decision. The DPI (def. pass interference) I’m taking that one, that’s on me, and we’ll keep that in-house on why, but that one is on me.”

(On how he feels about the state of the guard position)

“It’s going to be the same answer until we start fortifying that spot. So it’s a week-to-week thing right now. I think Christian (Haynes) deserves an opportunity to go compete a little bit more. How much so we’ll kind of let the practices decide at this point.”

(On how he feels about his defense through three weeks of the regular season)

“We’ve won the three games. We’ve done what we needed to do to win all three. You kind of come out of each game saying ‘Okay, this is where we want to attack.’ You come out of the Denver game, I kind of forgot about it by now. But like the New England game, not to our standard, but we bowed up when we needed to this past game. Situational football is probably what pops as just executing in those higher leverage situations, red zone, 3rd down, things like that. So, we’re always going to have stuff that we’re chasing. Every team’s going to have a new challenge. The guys are going to come in here tomorrow, we’re going to introduce the Lions to them. It’s a whole new slew of issues every week, and it just takes that type of mentality and that preparation to go execute every week at a high level. So far, I’d say so good because we’ve been able to do what it takes to win, but we’re still on our way.”
